How exactly do spore mines work? In the tyranid codex it states that when a mine comes into contact with an enemy unit the spore mine detonates. It then says to place a blast marker where it detonated. I was wondering, sorry if it is trivial, what blast marker do you use: the large blast or small blast. I just recently bought the macragge set(very good deal by the way) and i know the rules there are oversimplified, but they use a large template. I hope this contradiction can be easily solved.

A "blast" weapon uses the small blast marker.

Spore Mines are pretty useless in the real game of 40k. I'd suggest checking out the Forgeworld Meiotic Spores. For 35 points they are basically a giant Bio Acid mine that uses the big blast and after detonating leave a cluster of D6-1 regular Bio-Acid mines behind. Oh, and they're self detonating (which is helpful).

All in all the Meiotic mines are freakin' awesome, but of course you'll need to pick up a copy of Imperial Armor 4 to get the rules (and that book isn't exactly cheap).

yakface's 40K rule #1: Although the rules allow you to use modeling to your advantage, how badly do you need to win your toy soldier games?
yakface's 40K rule #2: Friends don't let friends start a MEQ army.
yakface's 40K rule #3: Codex does not ALWAYS trump the rulebook, so please don't say that!

problem with that is the rules have changed since then and the big fat experimental rules on the pages of those pdf rules would clue anyone bothering to check the rules.
