The dark green still looks plasticy, so I'll have to do something about that.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

It depends what kind of aesthetic you are going for. If you want something heavily armoured then there's the guison (the big green one in the previous post) or the Kimaris from the same series. You could also go for one of the amphibious suits like the Gogg, Z'Gok, or AcGuy from the original Gundam series., they're quite beefy and have big claws. You might also try the gouf, since it's got spikes/horns on its shoulder pads.

Check out http://www.dalong.net/ , click the HG at the top and then further click to view the English names. The oldest models are at the top and the newest towards the bottom.

Overall I would say that one of the chunkier Zeon robots like the Z'Gok E http://hlj.com/product/BAN920464 makes for a good starting point. They've got more rounded shapes and aren't as typically anime like the Gundam-named robots usually are which makes them easier to convert satisfactorily. They've got much more of an old sci-fi robot vibe to them, though, particularly the Gogg. That may or may not be your cup of tea.

MG is a size grade up but those are meant to be modelling experiences so they've got a lot of budget for inner frames and other details that you don't necessarily care about if you're going to make gaming pieces out of them. That said they're still like a third of the cost of an official GW knight model. Finding a decent size fit can be a little tricky.

The really old plastic models that don't have joints and are supposed to be glued are still available, too. They've got an even more old-school style but are cheap as dirt so chopping up half a dozen of them shouldn't be a problem for someone used to dealing with GW.

What do you mean no joints? Gundam kits have always been articulated. Even the old cross section kits were articulated. Unless you mean before they were using polycaps?

Kodos, I would suggest looking at some of the lesser known kits. Seeing people stick spikes and skulls on what is clearly a Zeon MS bothers me. Look at using some of the lesser known Neo Zeon suits, like the Hamma Hamma. It's an older kit from Double Zeta, but it's huge, has an interesting design, and I think it's one people wouldn't be as familiar with. Some of the less popular series, like Reconguista and AGE have some interesting designs as well.

A number of Zeon MS start with spikes on them!

As for lesser known stuff, how about a Z'gok? Or a Zssa? Or maybe a Big Zam? Or my favorite... the Baund Doc!

I mean before they had serious action figure levels of articulation. The stuff that is closest to what most people here would think of as "plastic models".

I personally recommend the earliest Zeon suits because they're the closest in style to space marine power armour and aren't always so obviously designed for space. The Hamma Hamma may be obscure even by Gundam standards but it's filled with rocket engines. Unless you want something with jump jets that might make for too much stuff to modify.

If it's a question of big shoulder pads, there's always the Quebley.

Something else to keep in mind is that the Quebly can be made to look an aweful lot like one of the mechs from Five Star Stories with some moderate modeling skills (no surprise considering who designed the Quebly)

No, the TAGs are much smaller. Remember, TAGs are generally on 40mm bases. They're not that big.

Looks very good, it is a 1/100 model?

But the Dunbine models look also good and I found different scales available, guess 1/35 would be the right size

The All Japan Model Show is going on right now in Japan. That means new kits! Expect some large pictures here, so I'm going to spoiler them so as not to grind your browser to a halt.

First off, Bandai is making a high-end action figure of the Dougram. It looks damn nice.

Spoiler:

It doesn't have a scale listed anywhere, but it's expected to be about 16cm tall.

Also in Dougram news, Max Factory is releasing the Big Foot in their Dougram kit line.

Spoiler:

They're also releasing the Maverick helicopter, which I've shown before, but they've also announced that they're doing the Bromry carrier truck.

Spoiler:

In other news, TakaraTomy is bringing back their 1/48 VOTOMS Actic Gear toyline (yay!). Three releases announced so far, which are Strike Dog (brand new), reissue of Berserga, and reissue of Marshy Dog. There's also lineart for a Berserga DT, which is the Desert Type seen in the Quent arc of the original series.
Spoiler:

And then there's Kotobukiya, always a favorite of mine. They are releasing a Mecha-Musume line called Megami Device. It's basically an expansion on the concept of their Frame Arms Girls and Konami's Busou Shinki toyline. Speaking of, Kotobukiya's also making Busou Shinki models. Probably of more interest to this community though would be the new Frame Arms kits. Here's five new ones!

Spoiler:

The three colored kits are due out soon. The one that looks like a dragon is Wyvern, and I believe that one is out sooner than the others. There's also a bunch of crazy weapon kits coming out, like a giant fist, huge guns, assault rifles, blades, etc. The usual stuff.

In Bandai news, there's not a ton of new stuff that I haven't linked to in this thread before. There's a new 1/100 Bawoo coming, an MG GM Sniper II, and a Metal Build F91. They also showed off a Gundam GP-03 Dendrobium for their Universal Unit candy toy series that was spun off from the Assault Kingdom series.

In non Gundam news from Bandai though, how would you like a model kit of Gao Gai Gar?

Spoiler:

I should mention, Gao Gai Gar has full combination and transformation abilities.

How about some Xabungle?

Spoiler:

It should be noted, both Xabungle and Walker Gallier will have the full transformation and combination gimmicks.

If those aren't to your liking, there's always the Megazord. Again, full transformation/combination gimmicks included.

Coming back to Pacific Rim, we now have a price, scale, release date, and promo photos for Cherno Alpha!

Release: December 2016
Price: 7,800 yen MSRP (it's 6861 on HLJ and 6390 on Amiami)
Scale: 1/350

Here's the official English description of the kit from Max Factory
PLAMAX JG-01: Cherno Alpha

Drift with the Mark-1 Jaeger ‘Cherno Alpha’!

From the science fiction monster film that took the world by storm ‘Pacific Rim’ come 1/350th scale plastic model kits of the Jaeger – huge robotic weapons that are mankind’s last line of defense against the Kaiju! The first in the series is the Russian Mark-1 Jaeger with a unique, clunky appearance that became hugely popular – the Cherno Alpha!

The characteristic design of the Jaeger has been converted into a plastic model kit using 3DCG data from the film for a faithful, detailed rendition of the original for fans to build for themselves. The kit is separated by color and makes use of snap-kit parts for easy assembly, with decals included to bring out the atmosphere of the film even more. The finished model also has a very satisfying size that is sure to stand out in any collection!

An optional part with the arm extended for a punch is included, and the kit also comes with an LED lighting unit to recreate the memorable lit-up appearance from the night scenes of the film. Experience the incredible presence of the Cherno Alpha as you build it with your own two hands!

I never knew Cherno Alpha had actual, functional hands. Hopefully this turns out to be successful and we get more than just Cherno Alpha and Gypsy Danger. I'm hoping for Tacit Ronin, Romeo Blue, and Horizon Brave.

Going to be hard not to buy like.... six of these. Just because.

Hopefully, they make some Kaiju kits too! That would be unreal. I would make dioramas for sure, because so much of that movie happens in the water, it would be very fun.

No callouts for Kotobukiya Frame Arts, esp the Frame Art Girls?

Wouldn't that be great for Sisters of Battle?

And if you need a Knight-class thing?

26 cm tall, so it's the same size as a Knight!

Well, you're in luck, Kotobukiya released a couple kits of the Gunhed. It even transforms.

Als from the All Japan Model and Hobby Show, Kotobukiya appears to have a new toyline coming out. It's been a long time since Kotobukiya made some proper toys. Armored Core and Front Mission toys were what pretty much brought them out of garage kit company status and into the mainstream.

This new line is called Hexa Gear. It appears to be a 1/24 scale line with action figures for the humans and modular "block" kits for their mecha and vehicles. The vehicles remind me somewhat of the ZOIDS Blox series or Machine Robot Mugenbine. Here's some pics of the prototypes.

I'm going to wait for finished product shots, but for now I'm blown away. When it comes to proprietary designs, Koto seldom dissapoints! Furthermore - do these look to be reasonably customizable or am I misconstruing the last picture?

I'm also glad it's an action figure line, as I've been getting more into them lately at the expense of construction kits (the older one grows, the scarcer the time becomes!). They also seem to get discounted heavily quite often, making them not that pricey to get, although RRPs are eye-watering.

Those are certainly a lot more detailed than the blox or mugenbine ever were, that's for sure.

I'll keep an eye out for these too. The figures themselves look to be quite poseable and detailed as well.
