"The Emperor Triumphant Over the Daemon Horus" is one of the classic works of sculptor Daniel Storm in the late 38th Millennium. It is still well regarded even after the Pontifex of Dustin demanded the Emperor's head be replaced with a skull as no one should ever try to represent the true features of the Emperor.

Reaper Storm Giant and a Demon called Agramon. The Storm Giant conversion was easy peasy, trimed down the neck and added a 1" plastic skull and some wires.

The Demon has 2 head options and four left hand options. But since I wanted both a fireball and a sword I had to cut up a sword and glue it to the left hand. He'll do.

Terrain for a ruined Imperial temple.

Got my Rebel Moon gunship/whatever and for $14 it's a great buy!

About the size of a Baneblade, but skinnier. About 10" long, 6" wide, 4" tall.

The main work it will need is capping the screw holes with some green stuff, maybe snipping the overlong main gun. And gluing the lid shut, this is a popcorn bowl after all.

A more ambitious person might try and replace the turret guns.

Honestly it comes weathered and painted and could be used out of the box for some games.

None of the parts move, turret does no spin, engines do not rotate, but overall it's a good buy and the best thing it can fit any sci-fi universe since, much like Lightyear toys, no one remembers the film and no one will care.

Play us out Ella Fitzgerald!

Holiday weekend, starting my long-postponed "Thin Blue Line" project which will turn 9 (NINE!) OOP MTO Imperial Bastions into 6' (!!) of city wall.

Wanted to do this for a long time so when the Bastions came back as MTO I figured this was it, time to do it.

AND...

Discovered I have 8 bastions and a sky shield...

Let's see if GW customer service is as good as it used to be

So day 1 done, 3 boxes down, 5 to go (should be 6 but I digress).

The first 11" module. Not bad at all.

As you might expect module 2 went faster. Now at 22" of wall.

I may have to add some internal bracing, they wiggle a bit, even with a base. And had to order more plasticard. Lots of details to add to those tops. But so far so good...

Another set of 11" and then I can start on the gate houses which will be far more ambitious.

So in typical Imperial style the guns point both in and out of the city?

Day 2, Thin Blue is up to 33" and about half of the boxes are used.

Lots of greebles to come for the walkway but it's going alright so far, not fallen over at least.

I had a plan for the thing to turn 90 degrees but realize now it won't work because the base is wider than the walkway, I would need a 6" square tower. May just have to build one with wood and greeble it.

Anyway, next goal is the two gate houses and the accompanying gate.

Gates are coming! And I think I found the solution to the corner tower too

Starting the gatehouse. Hard to get 3 different kits to work together but it'll work out somehow.

The gatehouses will each have a "dissuader" for anyone who doesn't get the hint from the walls of heavy bolters. This one is a spare from a Baneblade kit.

Some additional dissuasion is coming.

The gate itself is from the Zone Mortalis kit. I'm still working out how exactly it'll connect, I'd hoped to do 2 sets of gates and a courtyard but since the bottom of the bastion is not flat I either have to rebuild it or go with one set of gates.

More progress on the Thin Blue Line.

Gatehouse 1...

Gatehouse 2

And the main gate!

Still deciding if I should do a walkway over it or not. Any thoughts?

The Ikea boxes worked surprisingly well for the corner tower, obviously a lot of greebles are needed. Thinking about it I could have done the whole wall with them, 2 long boxes stacked and a small box on top of each as a bunker. Keeping it in mind. The bamboo boxes hold superglue really well and have a nice weight to them.

What's the opposite of a mountain of shame? A molehill of triumph?

And something small that annoyed me. The stubber in the Baneblade kit has an ammo box, the ammo box is hollow but as I was finishing that sprue I found a tiny little bit, smaller than my pinky, the bottom part for the ammo box.

That impressed me. A tiny bit for the bottom of an ammo box most folks will never see. Then I remembered the Rogal Dorn

GW.

You used to have pride in your work.

Those propaganda statues are sweet - love the little fluff line about the skull!

Laughed out loud at the ammo box having a bottom while the big ole tank doesn't.

Really excited about this fortification. Are those extra turrets from the baneblade kit?

Some additional progress to show.

The Ikea box tower is looking better with greebles. It'll never be a perfect fit, but once painted it will fit.

The total wall is already at 58" with a bit more to come.

And it has a walkway now!

As you all know it is traditional for Imperial architects to offer a small sacrifice of blood to consecrate such major works.

This is not the end, nor even the beginning of the end, but it may be the end of the beginning.

Still have the replacement bastion inbound which will add 7". Tomorrow I'll try the initial spray painting if the monsoons allow.

Not very much to report but, three dead rattle cans later, it is now primed grey.

Still waiting for the replacement bastion to reach me but it won't add that much, just another 7" of wall.

I'll be taking my summer trip home next week so there may not be any more progress for a while but hopefully this will get done this summer.

Looking grand - glad you went with a bridge over the gate, it just looks and 'feels' right.

Not where I should be

Man oh man, that wall is amazing! Looks perfect. GW could learn something here. God's I would love to play on that table!

Have you done internal bracing yet? Simple triangular right angled plasticard does wonders to such structures. Mind you I wonder if you could use some of that mountain of sprue you have. I melt mine down in a panini press, into sheets. Then cut it up for various projects. Would be perfect for your internal support issue.

I am blown away with how good this looks, going to have to do one for my club now! Thank you!

Thanks for the very kind words. I added some internal bracing and it helped, along with the base. I think my big lesson is that these are stable with 2x2 wall segments but 3x3 is more trouble than it's worth.

Looks really good. Although the gate is a weak point IMO. Have you considered doing it sideways instead? With the doors going up and down, not side to side into each other? Then you get double height door and no big column in the middle hindering vehicles. Needs some conversion work, but that doesn't seem to be beyond you

LOL, you zeroed in on what's been bugging me. I have a second set of gates so I was thinking of extending it to make a courtyard/kill box. Every medieval engineer knows you don't just make a single gate!

I might just use the stockade wall from Battlezone... whatever.

As for the column in the middle, yeah, no good way to hide that. The gates have a weird indent so they can't be just stacked together. Maybe the gates are supposed to be that narrow? Two lanes to go in and out? Maybe the column can retract into the ground for baneblades and such?

In any case the gate should be a weak point in a wall, if/when I do rules for this the gate will have a lower toughness and save to encourage people to attack it. The gatehouses of course will be tougher and have void shields, along with the two superheavy turrets and the demolisher cannons.

OK just a bit of free associating so I don't forget and hey maybe someone will find something useful here.

I ended up making the corner tower out of these bamboo boxes from Ikea.

https://www.ikea.com/in/en/p/tavelan-tray-30481776/

TAVELĂ…N Tray, the long one is 30 cm/~12" long and comes with a smaller one 13cm/~5". I could use the big trays to make a wall, I'm thinking stacked 2 high (each is 6cm high, ~2"). Or they could be used like bricks and offset. The smaller boxes would go on top as turrets or towers.

The challenge is they would not have parapets for the top but those can be scratch build or done without.

They're also easy to cover in bits and grubbings.

So if I ever decide to make a second set of walls, this is how I'll do it.
