Hey folks, had some time to work on my conversions today.

I made some quick first steps on my ratling, like cutting crap off of the base-gretchin, finding a proper head, deciding what pose he'll have, bending wires to support the arms and hands I'll have to sculpt etc. Everything was a success and once I've finished some of my other conversions it will be easy to pick up the actual work on the little fella.

Also had another look at my divesuit servitor and realized how little work it will be to finish him, I forgot how much progress I had already made on him. He's definitely the next thing to be completed once I'm done with Hope.

Which brings us to the troubling topic: Hope. I spent a while just looking at him and wondering how to continue, then made some minor adjustments to the current shoulder armor, but no real progress. I'll have to just sit down and sculpt something to see how it turns out, thinking is not going to help.

HAH I got you where I wanted you... now you're asking for teasers instead of complaining about them.
Ok, always being your humble servant, here's a preview for the halfling (who needs a name, so if you've got an idea... No, Frodo is not an option!):

The pose is already final, the rest will be constructed around it. The wire in his hand is obviously a proxy for the gun. This is really just the core of the model and I wouldn't be surprised if most of it ended up covered by putty.

DAM YOU DAM YOU FELL INTO YOUR TRAP ONCE AGAIN

However first up like the look and see the direction you are working to have to ask where is the head from also hope you are going to rework the feet, to grot like at the moment

Have you any idea of the weapon load out yet if so going to let us in as if you would, will the weapon be a IG issue or a traditional style weapon

My hope is a flintlock traditional style weapon with maybe a modern scope added I love this so far and may have to jump on your bandwagon and steal this idea for my own purpose

NOW STOP MESSING AND GIVE ME MORE TEASERS HA HAH AH AHA HA HA HAH AHA HA AHA HA AH

Sure, the feet will be changed. I already shortened the nails, but the feet are just huge. I'll either modify them or resculpt them alltogether. My plan is to wrap them in strips of cloth, to protect them from hazardous hivedust and stuff. Obviously halflings don't like to wear boots and they would be too noisy anyways. Being that small it's all about stealth.
The gun will be a custommade breakaction needle rifle with a revolving cylinder and I'll have to scratchbuild it, as there is nothing in the right size that has the look I'm aiming for.

Sounds like the thought process has been over working here love the revolving cylinder idea that sounds intriguing indeed and the feet rapped in cloth would be what I would do as well boots don't work on halflings

As you want to make an Ogryn and a Ratling have you considered making the one ride around on the shoulders of the other? Ratling on Ogryn would probably be the most practical way around. One other thing about Ratlings is that in the inquisimunda rules they are kleptomaniacs, which I think could make for some interesting details.

thinking is not going to help

Well that's always been my motto.

Very nice start on the ratling, Baiyuan! What a great idea of using grotz as a base. I have been looking for an excuse for byuing that kit for a long time. Thanks to you, I may have one now

One thing though, your starting a new model is not perchance a way of putting off completing hope, is it?

Not really, I bought it three weeks ago, but my other mats look similar, which bears witness to the fact that my operating priciples are neat and clean.

The ogryn is almost done and has been waiting in a box for two years it just needs some green stuffing. As much as I like the master blaster concept, this is not going to happen, in my book the ratling is a loner, who relies on stealth and subtlety. The ogryn is a loner too, a juggernaut that breaks through walls and gak. Great idea, but not for these two. It would be great to see that on your pitslave though. The mad max style would rule!

Me too mate, me too...

PDH wrote:Whoot. Nice one so far. The grotz are such good little models. I love the stub guns for my scavvies. Good head choice. The gun sounds cool.

Great kit, small and cheap, nice for bitz. I already put aside the ork tamer for a mutant headhunter conversion... I might be asking for advice on the head before he's done though, I'm still not sure I made the best choice. If the problem doesn't solve itself in the conversion process I'll employ a more social strategy.

No way, Hope will be the next thing to be completed and soon at that.
Yes, buy the kit, it's full of awesome.
Not wanting to use any normal halflings (WHFB, LOTH) or actual ratlings, gnoblars and grotz were the corollary. There are some gnoblars and arachnarok grotz in the mail, but they'll take three weeks or something to arrive. There might be more ratlings in the pipeline, but not too soon.

Yep, I've tried them all, but the one that was leftover from the Radius conversion looked best anyway.

Sounds good, I looked it up in case it means something I didn't know about...well it does:
(from urban dictionary)
1. grool = girl drool. Grool is not squirting. It is the lube that women produce when they are sexually aroused. Some girls have clear grool and some girls have creamy grool.
When I was riding him, I was so wet that my grool was running down his cock and dripping off his balls.
2. grool is a combination of great and cool.
person one: Hey there is a party this friday, are you coming?
person two: ya totally
person one: Grool!!!!!!

How can I say this... I'm not sure how much I like "grool", maybe it depends on the consistency...

Talking about Gnoblars, the ones that come as "bonus" with the regular Ogres are fantastic conversion fodder! I built a Twist sniper for my Inquisitor retinue from one of those models, and it became one of my absolute favourites!

Ah, yeah I've seen it before. Nice one, way too vicious for my purposes.

Update:
Worked on Hope for two hours, now that the putty is getting too hard I'm calling it a day.
I've filled the seams between the different armor segment on the back.
I've added another layer to the armored ring around Hope's bare skull cap. It looked too organic before and now it has a nice even edge.
Also added small starshaped buttonlike things to the top of the energy coils protruding from Hope's spine.

To do:
Still very little/no progress on the armor segments that I want to add to the upper and lower legs.
That's really the biggest thing that's left to do, the rest would just be a ton of detailing. Cables, tubes, rivets, ornaments, seals etc.
I doubt I'm going to finish Hope tomorrow (as I had planned), but I'll make an effort to come close to it.

Yeah, gotta have the Collector's Edition. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f87hllyjY3M&feature=fvsr If only for the artbook! And the soundtrack... ingame items and... feth it I want it all!
Already downloaded the installer though, saving me some minutes maybe.

Something about D3 that is actually more about our mutual hobby (art in a wider sense), it's a presentation the art director of D3 gave a couple days back at the game developer's conference. Check it out, it's long, it's about a game, but it's more about art in general than about game design. Lots of stuff you can apply to creating/sculpting/painting a miniature.
