Hello! This will be my first actual modeling post here on Dakka (and anywhere for that matter :-P), you see, I finally figured out how to take pictures with my crappy cell-phone camera and upload them to my PC! Without further delay, two fleet pics: After deciding to purchase a BFG (Battlefleet Gothic) rulebook at the latest Games Day, I decided I'd definitely like to play the game, though if you knew me in person you'd understand I'd much rather convert everything myself (also I'm pretty much broke, so, yeah). Here's some closer pics, though my cell phone's camera is horrid at focusing... >.< Cobra side view: Lunar Cruiser side view: back view: top view: Other Cruiser (I forget it's class) side view: top view: back view: ...anyway, time to spray paint these guys, then slowly get them painted. Expect more pics eventually of them painted, maybe with a better camera too (I'll have to borrow my father's digital camera) :-P -tom

I second, or third the call for in-focus pics... pretty please.
This would also make a great tutorial, those look really good (from what I can make out).
Any info about what they were made out of, how they were assembled, and the parts used would be great. Thanks in advance.
Nice work!

Thank you everyone very much for your wonderful replies!
I apologize again for the crummy pictures!
Either tonight or tomorrow night I'm going to make myself familiar with my father's digital camera and hopefully I can provide some quality images for everyone to play "name that bitz" with :-D
The white parts are all plasticard though I'm sure most already know that.
The engines on the back of the two cruisers are mostly comprised of Imperial Guard Tank Search Lights *TM* and they make such wonderful space-age engines!
Anyway I should probably wait to explain most of the bits and assembly until I have better pictures to accompany my explanations... I'll try to get that all posted either tonight or tomorrow night.

Wha! They are SO GOOD... Im gonna have to improve on them. No really, thats some really awesome work you are doing. I just think the designs need to be simplified, made out of the more cheaper bits off BWB (so anyone can make them on a budget) and a how-to guide posted for the greater benefit of the dakka community. Iv already started work on it (on the cobras at least), tho, I dont know why I bought 6 lascannons and only enough other bits to finish one ship... Altho, if you, Mr. Bombadidaloo object to my proposal i think ill leave out the posting bit out, as Iv always wanted a BFG fleet but didnt get one mainly due to cost and lack of players in my area.

Thank you very much for the compliments! I have no doubt you'd make an awesome tutorial, but I also have no doubt I'll be making more ships myself. I certainly do not mind you making your own and designing your own tutorial! However, I plan to do something similar for the future ships I make to bring my fleet up to 1000 points... so perhaps dakka will have multiple BFG ship-building tutorials for all of those interested in the game... that would be pretty awesome indeed :-D The cobra assembly is pretty cheap and easy, the entirety of its parts are, aside from the bit of plasticard: one IG missile launcher, one IG heavy bolter, two space marine backpacks and a tau backpack. I'm sure I can find a way to use the IG heavy-weapons sprue to make two or three small ships... that'd be a great, cost-effective method.... *gears start turning* -tom

Altho, I have no idea if my idea is actually gonna work or not, ill just have to try, and it only costs $7.71 for BWB to make 3 (plus 3 marine backpacks)

As far as the ships go, its a shame I cannot add another star.

Thesamdude: yeah, a conversion tutorial excluding the use of plasticard would be ideal. Don't know which way is cheaper though- ordering individual bits from BW bits (which is a service I've never used and am hardly familiar with) or ordering a whole sprue from GW, assuming we can make a couple of ships out of that sprue. Yup, I should probably start familiarizing myself with BW bits......... Hellfury: ah so that's where those stars come from... I always assumed they just signified the number of replies to the thread, never thought much about it... wellll thank you very much good sir! :-D

@ Mr.B: Well, with ordering from gw, you will get a lot of useless bits and the sprus are expensive (then there is the shipping to consider....) but with bwb you get what you need and the shipping is underpriced if you buy a lot of bits. Now that I have had a rummage through my bits box, Iv found most of the bits ill be needing to make a cobra (altho, i think its size is closer to a light cruser) so I decided to make a 'proof of concept' model, and here it is: Still quite rough and not finished at the moment, as Iv only paid for my BWB order today, so Ill have to wait till that comes and fix it up. Comments welcome

Hey now, that looks pretty awesome! Yeah that IG Lascannon is an excellent choice for a ship body! Unfortunately I've long since used all mine to convert up a Throne of Judgement model (which I guess I should take some pictures of one day and post here as well :-P), I'll definitely need to get me some more. Great use of the various vents on the back for the engine, nice touch. One problem I have though is that hole on the right side of the lascannon, where the cable typically feeds into. I suggest covering it with something simple. Something you have to keep in mind is to make sure the bits you are using for the conversion lose their key parts that signify them as themselves, meaning, typically removing the gun barrels/triggers from the guns, and this proof of concept certainly accomplishes that. I can't tell what you used as the head, or the side 'fans' on the neck... do tell :-P Two more things to keep in mind when scratch-building a ship: representing the armaments (in this case, the cobra is equipped with torpedoes and weapon batteries, so something along those lines), and making sure you have a decent spot to insert the flying base stand (unless you want to just glue it on), I just drilled holes into the bottom of my ships roughly equal in diameter to that of the flying base stand tip. Anyway I'll definitely be taking a look at bw-bits soon, though I'm really itching to paint up my 500 point fleet (and post the pics here :-D) before I move on to building my next ship(s)... though I'm itching to build my next ships now too, so I better hurry up the painting as well... ahhhhh! *P.S.* hehe... "Mr. B"... I feel special

Im planning to cover up the hole with the sensory part of a marine auspex, and attach another on the other side to balance it. The 'head' is made from glueing two dreadnaught 'toes' together, it is a little over the top, in my opinion, the side fins are IG smoke launchers with the pointy bits chopped off. As for what class the ship is, I think this is a little big for a cobra (im planning to make thoes out of left over backpacks) so i think ill mod this to be a firestorm. And as for mounting the flying stand ill either drill out where the gun used to rest on the tripod or if I decide to cut that bit off (as it is kina out of place there) drill out the bit underneath the hole. Edit: As for the out of place mounting, it bring me to the question: which one looks better? Exhibit A, or Exhibit B Edit: fixed exhibit A, wasnt ment to be an unmodified pic

i like A but you should realy getrid of the hinge where the gun connects to the tripod. as for a brige try the sreen of an auspex. as for B i just like the way the stock if the las cannon looks take that away and it lookes kinda lopsided

I love the spirit! Great conversion work. Some minor problems with the sense of scale in comparison to actual BFG models, but that's no biggie. Maybe you could add some really tiny detail??

I like exhibit A more, but it feels like it's missing something... like migsula suggested, I think you should add some detail stuff. I'd personally suggest chopping up a tau backpack or two :-)

There will be more stuff on the models, i just dont have anything in my bits box that is useful so im waiting for my bwb order to come so i can start trying out the things for real. I might also reconfigure how the engine exhausts are so I dont have 2 bulges on the side, but well have to see about that one

Order finally came, but I didnt have all the bits I thought i had in my bits box so I put in another soon after the first, so the idea I had in mind for light cruisers, cruisers and battleships will have to wait. On topic tho, I did some more work on my prototype, like adding a prow lance, rearranging the exhausts, covering up the hole in the lascannon(cant really see the auspexes in the pic) and putting a bridge on: What yall think? As id like some feedback on the desing before the tutorial

Nice bridge, that's hawt!! I also dig the lance underneath, though you should trim the tip of it so it meets evenly with the end that connects to the ship. I'd like to see a rear shot to view how well the engines look in the back, also, what bit did you use for the bridge? ...just don't make it too complicated, as this is an escort and you'll likely want to have many of the same :-P Btw, sorry for not adding anything to the thread lately, I've been quite busy. I hope to finish painting my Lunar Cruiser within a week, and once that's done I'll upload a bunch of pics.
