With the approach of Apocalypse coming, a friend of mine wants to bring out his old Malefactor model. Are there any hard set rules for it? Forgeworld or anything? Thanks

Nope. Forgeworld only makes rules for the creatures it has models for and right now for Tyranids that is only:
Malanthrope (kind of like a big Zoanthrope) Trygon (super Ravener that brings a squad along with him when he deep strikes) Hierodule (both the shooty and the CC version) Harridan (super gargoyle flying thing) HIerophant (Bio-titan)
The Tyranids don't currently have a 'transport' type bug anymore besides the Harridan which carries Gargoyles.
If you wanted to use it in Apocalypse, I'd recommend using the Trygon rules (since it kind of brings a unit with it like a transport), or I'd just use the CC Hierodule rules and ignore the whole transport aspect it used to have.

You could use the new VDR from Apoc to play it. I'm pretty sure one of the Chapter Approved books had the rules for the old Amorcast tyranid models.

Hey, you're right!
CA: 2005 has the tyranid build-a-bug rules and they pre-made all the old Tyranid beasties for you. Of course, some of the rules should really be adapted for the new Tyranid codex, but for the most part it looks like a great start.
If Apocalypse has an updated version of these VDR rules it should be pretty simple to convert.
The old stats from CA: 2005 are as follows:
Malefactor: 263 points (Heavy Support choice)
WS4 BS4 S7 T7 W5 I2 A3(4) Ld10 Sv2+
Special rules:
*Fast (9" move & 9" charge, however they reference the Ravener movement rules. Since the Ravener was updated to regular 'beast' movement in the new codex I really think the Malefactor should probably move this way too. That would be 6" move, fleet & 12" charge).
*Scything Talons (gives the profile the 4th attack).
*Fragmentation Spines (which is a Spinefist with S8 and AP4 shots. . .as per the current codex I'm not sure if the Spinefist would be allowed above S6, but I guess you're paying the points for it).
*Transport (can carry up to 11 wounds of Tyranid creatures).
