Hi all, I'm building a Hirst Arts/Castlemould city board for 40k and need some advice.
The city is supposed to be a religious centre and not destroyed in any way by war. The board is 1.20 meters square and will feature 10-15 houses (made of syntetic plaster).

On the picture above you can see the board so far. It will have a short road leading in, a car park (?) and stairs up into the centre.

I'm considering having a narrow "sunken road" through the middle of the board - with stairs to important places.

Hi all.
I have some more pictures for you - the board is almost finished and I'm adding the finishing touches.
Lots of ForgeWorld stuff (Sabre seach lights etc.) and scratch built items (speaker/propaganda tower etc.).

Brace for impact, here's a LOT of pictures...

I added some cargo:

Added a speaker/propaganda tower (as suggested):

[ i m g ] image URL [ / i m g ] might also work (although not in HTML mode).

Amongst the Stars, In the Night

Excellent work! Totally awesome! I gotta move to the great white north so can get my game on your tables! I am good and truly impressed, that table is kicking and rocks the feck out! Awesome!

The Dakka Mangler ('editor') isn't so swift at doing whatcha want it to. After #4 time consuming wasteful attempts at getting the damn editor to direct link your pics (using the correct HTML code, btw), I give up.Sigh. Great stuff though. Thanks for sharing!

>hey where is the aliens loader from?

A cheap (ebay) pre-painted Konami Aliens Power Loader (Japanese candy-toy).
There are lots of them for sale, for around $5-10.
Simply remove Ripley and they look rather OK.

Kyoto: How did you manage to get the image to show??
(I cannot edit my old posts to get the correct img-codes - 'cause then the Dakka Editor trashes the links - even if I don't save my changes...)

It isn't that it's that hard to remember, it's just that the Dakka Post Mangler is 100% guaranteed to foul 'em up if you make a mistake in your original post, requiring a complete re-write, more time wasted, added frustration, yadda, yadda, yadda. HTML is the suck, and the Post Mangler maginfies it's suckiness a hundredfold.

Lovely-looking board so far. If you want to get a 40K feel, imagine mediaevel church architecture that has been continually inhabited or centuries: so add in water/sewage pipes, electricity supply etc. This will also bring some colour into the board ? yellows, blues and reds to complement the overall neutral tones.

I always feel that it's the details that really makes terrain pop ? so go overboard on signposts, telephone boxes/coin-op auto-flagellating kiosks(!), fly-posters, grafitti, stray dogs, drifts of leaves, discarded newspapers, litterbins (and litter), advertising/propaganga hoardings, refreshment servitors, Vox Dei-technomats, road markings, ATMs etc.

Obviously it's a religious place; but remember that mediaevel markets were held in Cathedrals: religion was much more of an everyday thing than is common nowadays ? so imagine how the overseers of ancient cathedrals/chapels would deal with modern-day situations... perhaps a ticket machine and turnstile, or a revolving door to allow access? One of those winding queue things you see at rollercoasters? Where would the faithful park? Double-decker pews to pack more people in? Vid-screens and vox-casters overhead and outside so the preacher can reach more faithful? Sponsored pews? Cherubim choirs? It might be nice to have a 'pigeon loft' for the cherub constructs...

You've really outdone yourself on this table: all you need now is to tech it up a little and introduce some little details. Keep us updated!
