while thinking about the new ork 'Dex, the idea came up to rebase my ork bikes, from the caverlarie bases I'm currently using to 40mm round bases. but then, I realized, the bikes were much too big anyway. but I still wondered...

is there a base size I have to use for bikes? I know about jetbikes, but how about the wheeled ones?

Last time I bought SM Bikes they were supplied with cavalry bases.

They come on cavalry bases, but 40mm round bases are slightly larger in area so it is safe to mount bikers on them as per the Bases rule on p6 of the BGB.

Safe, but silly looking.

I have all my bikes on 60mm round bases, as they fit better.

Ghaz,

Isn't there some company (Gale force 9 perhaps?) that sells pre-made bases similar to that? I thought I remembered that being the case.

Edit: I believe this is what I was thinking of:

www.gf9.com/store/product_info.php

While not exactly like what you linked to, its roughly similar.

@Yakface: They are also $10.99 for 8. I'd not like to spend that without knowing that they'll fit a GW bike. Anyone used these before?

just tried it. I haven't put sand on it or anything, but the shape works great with marine bikes. I'll try ork bikes as soon as I get them of their old bases

Take a 40mm round, cut it in half. Put it on either end of a 40mm square. Saw some done like this at Balt GD, looked quite nice.

I now have my eldar Jetbikes on the GF9 ovals. IMO they're the best option out there. The different round base options are pretty good too. The kludges involving cutting multiple bases can look pretty good, but they're a lot more work.

Which is what my link shows and what the OP said he was going to do

What's nice is that GW-US' online store doesn't list 40 mm Square bases.

I was able to find the "bit" that you could order for $1 each...

A new day, a new time zone.

A calvary base with 1/3 of a 28 mm base on either end doesn't look so bad, although it invovles being more careful with your cutting.

Then for the commander's bike, I cut a 60 mm in half and mounted it on either end of 3 parallel calvary bases.
