Posted By Breotan on 10/14/2007 8:41 AM WOOD/STICKS - Each kit comes with a bag of natural wood sticks... I'm sorry, but this made me laugh. Hrmmm...well it wasn't meant to be a joke, that's for sure. I'm not sure what you find funny about it. Is it because a kit comes with sticks you can find in your own backyard or is it because it's named "natural" wood sticks? I'll explain both, just in case. The sticks used in these bags are #1. Stripped of bark, #2. Hand washed + dried, and #3. Go through a process to slightly darken them. What difference could any of that make? ask my customers. The sticks are used for numerous basing applications. Could you do the same thing finding your own sticks? absolutely! but mine are already done and in kits with many other helpfull basing supplies. Why are they called "natural" wood sticks? simple, there are various other ways to make realistic and scaled down representations of deadfall and/or sticks/tree trunks. Just to name a few: wire+foam foliage, greenstuff/epoxy, sculpey, plaster, resin...so to avoid any confusion, we call them "natural" wood sticks. This post was for clarification purposes only. Currently, the kits do not come with this product because we are re-designing how they are gathered and stored/packaged (plus a new curing process).

I'm all for alternate sources of hobby supplies, it's just that I think that the idea of people buying sticks & twigs is hilarious.

snow = baking soda (thias is what PP recommend for Khador bases) sand = er... sand (any building site for good sand) sticks = er... sticks! Faerie dust = teenage girls makeover kits. boulders = aquarium terrain plants = aquarium plants cork = DIY shop cork tiles, just ask for a sample. While there get a sample bathroom tile for a mixing paint slate.
Flock and static grass is useful, but can be found in many caft shops. Just about everything can be had for free or on a quick walk around the average high street/shopping arcade.

I wasn't really asking for a critique of the products I sell but I guess that's fine. Sure, a lot of the products I sell can be had by simply going outside and harvesting them. A good deal of the other products, however, can't. Someone said a bit about faery dust...hrmm...well I can think of dozens of reasons why you would want the stuff, I'll name a few just for examples. Adding this dust to acrylic paint makes for some cool looking cavern walls that glitter. Adding it to snow flock gives the snow that extra oomph! Using it to accent treasure piles also adds to the cool factor of miniaures. Speaking of snow flock. My snow is not made of baking soda, nor is it made from wood (well at least not anymore). The snow flock is finely ground foam particles. For clarifications, 99% of the products I sell are custom. I do not buy flock, static grass, field grass, etc., from some other company that already offers it as hobby scatter. I buy all materials in their raw format and go from there. I modify them as needed. So when I say I am offering Spring Static Grass, know that it was made by ME and me alone. Why would I buy something already made and then resell it? doesn't make sense. I guess maybe it woud be easier and cheaper??? Someone said this entire thread was funny. That's fine, I won't post anymore about my products if it offends or worse. I am simply trying to offer some hobby related products to those that want or could use them. I'm not asking anyone to LOOK at my L33T stuff and BUY BUY BUY. I was just throwing it out there as options for basing and what not. That's it, nothing else...I have no other motives or angles. It's there if you want it. To those that ARE interested, I'm more than happy to help you out (if not my products then perhaps I can direct you to someone who has what you need). Thanks very much.

Honestly, you need to open with "Gentlemen, BEHOLD!"
For example:
Gentlemen, BEHOLD! ... STICKS!
If nothing else, it will be pretty funny, and put people in the right frame of mind to appreciate scientifically gathered, prepared and packaged sticks.
Honestly, I think it isn't a half bad idea, since it gives people who are not super hobby savvy a good start on a cohesive theme. No one really -needs- it, but it is a handy help sort of thing for those who are not McGuiver's descendant. I just think a little tounge in cheek humor might help diffuse the "you want me to pay for dirt and sticks? Sorry, science sticks?" issue.

Heh, you're probably right. But hey, I'm all about informing others that my wares are available...if no one wants them, so be it. I'm not going to cram stuff like this down anyones throat, just wanted to let them know it's an option. I thank you for the comments.

dear Arkblade, two little things I want to say.
First, "nice". I love beautiful base and I welcome anyone who is trying to make it easier for people to have great looking army.
Second, you must be aware of the caliber of some member of this forum. look a bit, and you will see some really amazing scratchbuild project. (lets just talk about Foda_Bett who is building 4 warhound at once, or ESDK and his train madness ) I hope that this fact will help to place some remarks in context.

You probably should get yourself a book on marketing/advertising. I dated a girl who was in a few classes (nth degree, I know), and it was actually pretty interesting. In fact, we broke up shortly after the semester ended... anyway, one thing to assume is that most people tend to respond in a negative way to any statement made telling them to buy something they hadn't thought of. For instance, sticks. This is why so many commercials start out with things like "There are plenty of stores to buy soup, but if you come to ours you get 2!" or some such.
In your case, if you say "You need to buy these sticks" people are going to think "No, I can get sticks outside." If you start out agreeing with them, saying you can get sticks anywhere, but then pointing out the reasons why yours are better, people are going to not have the wall of "I disagree" up initially. Once you get past the initial "he is probably lying to me ot get me to buy something I don't need" part, you can sell them all kinds of stuff.

I used to sell stuff like this on ebay (along with a load of other stuff). It was surprisingly popular, despite not being half as professionally presented (I don't usse flock myself, which is why I had a load left over to sell).
