I was in my local B&M store talking with the owner about the impending 5th Edition release.

After mentioning about hearing rumors of a spring release he told me that it was already in his GW solicits for August 2008 release.

While this in no way guarentees that outcome, it's what GW is planning for at the moment.

He felt the need to stress that, pointing out that Orks were suppossed to be out spring of this year, according to GW solicits.

Anyone ever wonder if these breaking news first posts are GW hires carrying out wag the dog tactics?

I'll call BS on this one. I've got all the info GW sends out to an independent, and just came back from a trip to Baltimore HQ. Nothing in any of it on 5th edition. The info on new products never goes that far. Its never more than 90 days out. Got to love the one post wonders.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

But does GW really bother? It all seems a little too obvious.

There's been speculation about 40K 5 for a little while now. I believe it's in the works, but find the release date highly suspect.

Real or not, you can't expect someone to reveal their source of info.

I used to be quite involved with GW rumors years ago. I've taken the last 4 years off from the hobby due to the birth of my daughter and just not having enough time or money to support my miniatures gaming addiction. About a year ago I got involved with War Machine, and I just got back into 40K with the introduction of the Apocalypse rules.

I didn't post a "Hi, I'm new here" becuase quite frankly I'm not, and I just don't care about such idiotic nicities. The post count is low simply becuase I couldn't remeber the name and password I used 4 years ago.

The store I was at was:
GAME HAVEN HOBBIES
634 State Road, North Dartmouth (Unit F)
(508) 961-0007
Game-Haven@comcast.net
Sunday: Noon - 5pm, Monday - Friday: 2pm - 9pm, Saturday: 11am-9pm
http://www.gamehavenhobbies.com/

And no, I don't work for GW or Game Haven.

I was excited about the news and this is only place I could remeber the web address for that kept track of 40K rumors.

The level of Paranoia in this thread is ridiculous.
If I were a GW plant, which I'm not, would it make the information any less valuable ?
If GW wanted to go big with the information, do you seriously think they would put it here before putting on their own website ?

August is the date they are shooting for. Not going public with it allows them to save face if they fall behind. They do let their retailers know what they are planning so that the retailers can plan accordingly.

To be fair, I don't think I posted a "Hi, I'm new here" entry when I first joined Dakka.

I heard that it was going to be released a few months after Codex Orks, obviously the few months have stretched a bit

Late Qtr 3 / Early Qtr 4 2008 seems a reasonable date so slightly after August 2008 IMO.

I'm inclined to believe the original poster. My FLGS told me the Baneblade release date about 3 or 4 months before it was confirmed and turned out to be 100% accurate.

It wouldn't do to underestimate both our collective boredom as well as our willingness to jump at a chance to slam GW.

Unfortunately, they have been releasing an excellent assortment of minatures, Jervis and Phil Kelly seem to know what they're doing, Apocolypse is a rousing success, and the rules seem to be shaping up in general (other than a bit of poo-pooing on the recent Chaos 'dex). Heck we might even see some kind of token Lost and the Damned list.

But welcome back and thanks for the nod

Oh and the new deamonettes are crap.

I'd buy that for a dollar.

But, to me it just seems too soon for a new version.. maybe I'm just getting old and time flys by faster.

So, if they do release the new rulebook in August I guess we can expect the new marine codex in september? ya can't have a new rulebook without a new marine codex...

would they also do a new Battle for Macragee, or just keep that box set and just give it an updated mini rulebook?

I think V4 Rulebook was a 2000/2001 release?
Some very unconfirmed mutterings went along the lines that V5 would be more about cleaning up the game mechanics.
Effectively the codex's would be virtually unchanged?

I'm sure I'm blowing hot air on this point

No way in heck it's coming out so soon, they havn't even updated some of the dexes let alone created the daemonic codex and the xenos hunters codex (well the xenos codex has been a rumour for a long time some of us still have hope).

Either way if a new edition does come out I hope that they fix a lot of the brokeness. I have yet to believe it till I see somthing more official. It sort of seems like if its out of left field.

Don't they usually release these things soon after Uk Games day, which is september? That would put this rumour only a month out.

Either way, i'm chosing to believe September/early october 2008 as a release.

Well I have no doubt they are working on v 5 already, v 4 in my opinion is inferior to 3, and broke so many things. Rending, entanglement, and the travesty of changing the most hth combat oriented army in the game into a shooty army of death (admitedly that was the codex). When a falcon is 5x more survivable than a land raider, and it shows at each and every tournament, it should be a big wake up call.

warhammer 40k mmo. If I can drive an ork trukk into the back of a space marine dread and explode in a fireball of epic, I can die happy!

Well wasn't the quick start V4 rules out in August (remember that pdf thing that gave us all a preview of the changes), then the actual rules a month later? Seems reasonable they would do something similar.

UKGD is always a good time for major releases so I'd expect it around then Aug/Sept/Oct.

Thats especially true when they have a spanky new starter set to sell.

A Falcon being unkillable has nothing to do with 4Ed. And everything to do with the Codex.

5th Edition needs to do something, I really liked Apocalypses Vehicle Damage chart and hope they do that for the game itself.
As there's no reason to remember 3 damn charts in the game.
Entanglement is a bit excessive and would like to see it ousted for more of a "Pin test -2" or something.

Also LOS rules.. please.. god fix them. Most convoluted piece of crap rule-set ever.

There's apparently a new box with Marines and Orks for 5th with more substantial forces for each side.

GW has basically said that they won't be touching any of the Inquisition Codexes in the near future. I wouldn't expect Xenos till late 5th or early 6th edition honestly. They're already at the 15 or so armies that they want to keep the game at to ensure regular support.

The Daemonic 'Dex will be out well before August. I don't see them holding back 5th just for Dark Eldar. More likely DE will be an early release for 5th.

Is Game Haven the former Grandmaster Games of N. Dartmouth? I used to stop in there all the time...

2004 was the release year. That'd make it 4 years between releases. 3rd. Ed. was released in 98/99, and the spread between 6th-7th ed. Fantasy was about 5 years (2001-2006) as well. So this shrinks the release timing by about a year, though considering the last couple of years of 3rd ed. were rife with Trial Vehicle/Assault Rules (TVR/TAR), and 4th ed. has had a total dearth of FAQs, it's probably not that big a spread.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Hello Everyone! My name is Jared...1st time poster...LONG time reader

Is Game Haven the former Grandmaster Games of N. Dartmouth? I used to stop in there all the time...

I used to work at Grandmaster and after its closing my friend Steve bought all the product and fixings from Joel Green owner of Grandmasters and opened GameHaven where I now have worked for over 2 years.

If you used to frequent Grandmasters perhaps you remember me and if your still in the area you should stop in and check us out.

Whats Up Adamsouza!
