Hey folks, with God Bless the Infantry over and done with, I thought I would share my entry a bit in depth.

My entry was the Female Sniper model. I have no idea when or where I got the model from, and it has been floating in my bitz box for many many years now. I finally decided upon it after thoroughly thinking it over and comparing it to other possible models for the contest.

I figured it was the most different piece I had available, and that I could really go nuts on different techniques and styles for the whole piece. Thus my decision was made.

A quick filing and base job and I was off and running.

I'm somewhat disappointed in the base, I really wanted to try and do something more with it, but I had completely forgotten my intentions and just went with a standard base job. It's nothing fancy but it gets the job done.

A big part of what I wanted to do with this model was to really give white primer a serious try. I'd never painted anything from a white basecoat and thought this would be the perfect time to try it.

The white turned out to be a GREAT idea. I only had to cover areas with one color to make them solid colors, instead of the usual build up from black I have always been accustomed to.

My approach to shading and highlighting was also completely different from what I normally use. Most of the time I have to use different colors to get the desired effect. With this model I used the same color, only mixed with black or white to get the shading or highlighting that I wanted. I did the shading by washing the darker mix into the recess. Aided by a small drop of soap in my water to break the surface tension. After the wash was dry, I would go back through and pick out the high spots in the original color. Then highlighting using the base color + white to get an appropriate highlight color. I'm completely sold on the technique and will definitely use it in the future. Another big part of the model was the line of paints. I have had the US Paint Set from Flames of War for a while now, only using it in some very small pieces that I couldn't get a serious feel for the paints with. I have to say that I absolutely LOVE these paints. And I will definitely be getting more and more colors from Vallejo in the future. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who hasn't tried them yet.

My biggest problem was time. I have been SWAMPED with reading and trying to study for my EMT-B class this past month. And I had very little time to seriously dedicate to painting the entry. Most of what you see was done in one night and was rushed from the gate. My biggest regret of the entire piece has to be the rifle itself. I was in a bind to find something that looks sort of good, and did the paint for it in a matter of minutes. I definitely WILL be going back over that part of the piece in the near future as the model is not varnished yet, so I have some extra work that I want to do on the model. To include putting an "ARMY" across the front of her shirt. All in all though I'm extremely happy with what I was able to accomplish and what I have learned from this model overall. Expect to see much of the same techniques creep into my every day painting style. And in future entries from me expect to see something completely different ^_-.

Comments and criticism are more than welcome. Thanks to those who voted for her ^_^.

First off - nice work for one evening! Your explanation of the painting steps was appreciated as well.

The miniature is from the defunct Vor: the Maelstrom line. The model is a special character Sniper from the Union (United Canada, America, Mexico) army list.

Nice. I've been converting all my GW paints to Vallejo. Even with the new pots, my GWs always dry out. Never have trouble with Vallejo. Although, I do have to shake the snot out of them!

The threadromancy! It burns the eyes!

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

Also, Golden Eyed Scout, you commented on a thread that was exactly a year old. You can't just use the day and month.

It bumps more relevant threads off of the front page.

For consequences, I assume a warning increase if it's habitual.

Hahaha, I haven't had to lock my own threads before...

It's a model from Vor: The Maelstrom.

I do appreciate the compliments, but this thread is indeed FAR too old to be commenting on.

Please check dates before you comment on a thread ^_^!
