The astute of you may have notice that dakka has had a minor upgrade (5.06 from 5.04). We have a huge number of things in the pipeline and the next big release is scheduled in for Feb/March 2008, but there were enough small bugs and tweaks that we decided to fork the code and put out this release to make sure you can all enjoy dakka without having to come up with workarounds for glitches.

There are dozens and dozens of minor tweaks behind the scenes, so I'll just summarise some of the main things...

Key Bug fixes:
- Attachments are now shown in the order you upload them. You can delete an attachment and then re-attach it to reorder them.
- No more vanishing attachments if you edit a post.
- DCM status is displayed properly for DCMs using autologin.
- The > symbol will now display without getting converted into >
- Moved threads are only updated in the moved forum now (so moved threads no longer get promoted to the top in two places).
- Search engine filtering works properly now (so you can search a specific forum across multiple pages of results). Still more tweaks to come, but it should be slightly more useful at least.
- Underlining works

New Features:
- There is now a high score list on the non-forum pages which show the users who have posted the most in the last 7 days and the last 30 days. The post counts are updated every 5 minutes. Can you get onto the list of top dakka users?
- You can disable post previews in your profile.
- You can set your local timezone and date display preferences in your profile.
- Homepage attachment pics are now a random set from the last 30 attachments. They will be random each time you reload.
- Quick reply is open and waiting by default. Get chatting!
- Full UBB code support in sigs.
- Animated avatars are now allowed (I'm looking at you hellfury)
- You can now autologin from multiple locations at once. We have changed some of the backend code to get a workaround in place which now allows this so you dont need to use the custom login URL mentioned in the nuts and bolts forum anymore.
- The database is now unicode so you can use all manner of funky text (japanese, chinese, संस्कृता वाक्, etc). A couple of older posts might have a few glitchy characters but this is a one-off change so will not occur again and the older posts can always be edited.
- New PMs will be more noticeable and blink at you in the top right of the page.
- User avatars now click through to the related user profiles.

Note that some of these changes might require cache updates in your browser or proxy server. These will filter through over a couple of days, but you can force them through by holding down CTRL and pressing the 'refresh' button in your browser. Some browsers may need SHIFT and 'refresh' instead.

So enjoy and please post here in the nuts and bolts forum if you have any problems or find any more bugs and we will add them to the todo list!

I do NOT look forward to all the posts of people trying to up their posting rank.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Any obvious abuses will be dealt with accordingly (including temporary bans) and any mass abuse will lead to it being removed. We are just trying it out to see how people respond for now.

If you're talking about the "army profiles" for each of the armies that played in the league when Dakka was a store, you can still find some of those on the wayback machine if you search for dakkadakka.com.

We will be reintroducing the concept of "army profiles" in the near(ish) future so anyone will be able to feature pictures (and fluff) of their armies as a whole.
