Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

There were about 16 people at this RTT and about 10 of them were marines (I was glad I did not take my CSM). There were 2 Ork players there that I would like to try a game against, but they started the pairings by matching up all of the marines with xenos, so I was going to get a MEQ for the first game.

Game #1 Blackmoor’s Eldar vs. Nick’s Black Templar

I played Nick a couple of months ago at an RTT in Orlando. I was playing chaos in an unfavorable mission, and he rolled very well (he had a Tech Marine take out a Thousand Sons squad), and I rolled badly (I had 2 leadership 10 units and one leadership 9 unit with a re-roll run off of the table from shooting), and he beat me like I owed him money.

His list (from memory)
Chaplain
Emperor’s Champion (Abhor the witch vow)

5 Assault Terminators
Techmarine on a bike
Techmarine on a bike

10 Initiates/Neophytes Rhino
10 Initiates/Neophytes Rhino

Land Speeder Tornado
5 Bikes w/Attack bike with Heavy Bolter
5 Bikes w/Attack bike with Heavy Bolter

Land Raider Crusader
Predator w/ TL Lascannon and Heavy Bolter Sponsons
Predator w/ TL Lascannon and Heavy Bolter Sponsons

All of the tables have very little terrain on them. Most of the tables had a piece in each corner and a piece in the center of the table.

Mission: Hostage Retrieval
It is an attacker/defender scenario. You determine who the attacker is by who has the most points in fast attack. The attack starts in a 12” deployment zone, and the defender gets an 18” deployments zone with a hostage in the middle of it that needs to be recovered for 350 bonus points.

Set up
I forgot to take a picture of the set up, but nothing much moved from the picture below.

My Eldar where set up to the left mostly, and my Dark Reapers where in the building to the left. My Vypers where behind the building to the left, and my Falcons started with my 2 elite units behind the level 3 hill on the right. Since he was going to get a D6” closer, I was set up really far back in my deployment zone since if he got a turn one charge with that Land Raider that would be bad.

Black Templar were set up with a Predator on the far left with the Land Speeder beside it. Then a bike squad with a Techmarine in front of the LR crusader with Terminators and HQ inside, then another bike squad with Techmarine and the 2 Rhino with squads inside, and a Predator on the right.

Before the turn starts he moves forward with his vow.

Turn #1
I win the dice roll to go first and take the first turn.

Eldar top of turn #1
I move my Vypers from behind the building and shoot and kill his Land Speeder. I find that is a great role for them, and do that when ever I can. My Dark Reapers unload on his Bikes in front of his LRC and kill them down to one Bike and the Techmarine. My Brightlances open up on his LRC killing it (that is what you get when you don’t take blessed hull). All my other shots bounce harmlessly off.

The photo is just after he moved his Rhinos

Left side of the table

Right side of the table

Black Templar Bottom of turn #1
Everything charges forward. The rhinos move up and pop smoke with the bike squad on the right hiding behind them. The bikes on the right turbo boost behind the building on the left with a guardian squad and the Dark Reapers in it. The Predator on the left shoots down a Vyper and the one on the right blows a pulse laser off of a falcon.

Turn #2

Eldar Top of Turn #2
I move my Falcons and my Vyper forward to try to get side shots on the Predators and do nothing. I shoot at the 2 bikes that Turbo boosted behind the buildings and take them out.

Left Side

Right Side

Black Templar bottom of Turn #2
He moved up again and disembarks behind his rhinos. His squads shoot up my Storm guardians. His Predator on the left shots a gun off, and stuns the Vyper, the Predator on the right stuns a falcon.

Turn #3

Eldar Top of Turn #3
I move everyone up to the rhinos. I move the shaken Falcon to where the action is for some counter assault. My other Falcon stuns the Predator on the right. His troops are getting a bit close for compfort, and need to be neutralized. I shoot a rhino with the Avatar and miss, then the storm guardians shoot it with a fusion gun and get a penetrating 6 so it is removed. Now that they are exposed my army unloads on them destroying one squad and the bikes.

Black Templar Turn #3
He moves his rhino to block the ramp of my Falcon. The Predator on the left shoots up my Dire Avengers. Then he assaults my Dire Avengers and kills some.

A close up of the action

Turn #4

Eldar Top of Turn #4
My Falcon shoots off the turret of the Predator on my right. Then my Avatar moves in for doing what he does best…some killing.

Action close up!

Black Templar bottom of Turn #4
As a last attempt at winning the game he throws his Terminators at my Avatar. My Avatar goes first and kills his Chaplain. Then the Terminators attack the Avatar and fail to hit/wound him.

Turn #5
After whiffing on my Avatar he concedes the game.

Hmmm I'm confused. How did Terminators with a Chaplain not hit/wound the Avatar?

Well, GBF's army looks a bit better than the templar list. 20 marines is about 40 short. I think GBF runs a BA list. Is the LR delivering the death company? Hard to tell from the pics, I like the blue glowy effect though.

Seeing Land Raiders and Rhinos makes me wince. Free gifts for everyone, I guess. Well, 5th edition can make the LR annoying at least...

Mats are lame, but hey maybe the terrain won't spin freely. I do question buildings in tournaments, they're...unbalancing atm in my view. Hills and forests I think make for a better game. I don't understand the quality of the terrain, some is pure gold (like that 'forest' near GBF's army) but the rest is just dreck. Unpainted and unbased city fight buildings? :(

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

nice. What do you do with the Farseer? Guide/ Fortune the Reapers?

Wait, that's Eldrad, isn't it?

Well smashed, always nice to take it to the Templars. List looked a bit soft to me, about 4x the bikes I'd expect in a marine force. His bike techmarines do anything? Interested in that build of late, for modeling reasons really.

GBF's army looks quite nice, look forward to a nice BA slugfest.

Stelek wrote:Hmmm I'm confused. How did Terminators with a Chaplain not hit/wound the Avatar?

When they charged, my Avatar gets to hit first at I6. I did 4 hits and 4 wounds and he failed 3 out of 4 saves. The Chaplain died and was unable to live to use Litanies of Hate. That means that the squad hits on a 5+

Tacobake wrote:nice. What do you do with the Farseer? Guide/ Fortune the Reapers?

Wait, that's Eldrad, isn't it?

Yes it was Eldrad. I would say that about 90% of the time I guide the Dark Reapers and Fortune the Avatar and Dark Reapers. He had Abhor the witch vow which canceled my psychic powers on a roll of 5+ though.

I think he takes Techmarines for 2 reasons. One is that he has a Golden Demon quality Techmarine on a bike. The other is to give the bikes some close combat punch. The are tooled up to be just like another HQ IC. I would say they are not worth it though.

Would you stick to the reapers in future builds?
I ask because I love to use them, but they are somewhat looked down upon for competitive play (as far as I see it around here).

Blackmoor: Great BatRep!

Schepp: In my experience Dark Reapers are invaluable with the Eldrad/Avatar combo. In this sort of army, there's always something around to protect the 'Reapers, and they make a great firebase from which to harass your opponent. As long as you get good placement (easy with Eldrad) they will ruin your opponent's day.

I use two squads of them in my competitive "grounded" Eldar force, and honestly it's almost unfair...

Ba-zziiing!

Hey all,

I am the Black templar player that played Allan.

I usually only take one bike squad with a Techmarine for fast delivery and 10 plasma gun shots to pretty much any unit out there i need to touch right away.

That and I love my techmarine model

He only has a harness, bike and then a plasma pistol that is it.

This tournament was really weird point size and I had to add the extra points somewhere to beff up my list. I didn't have another rhino and marines built or painted so I went with another techmarine and bikes I already had put together.

Ya ,I got Allan in the game in Orlando but he blew me off this table and the dice where not with me at all during this whole game.

Great game again Allan but boy was it brutal.

Hmmm. Next time when you charge an Avatar, put the Chaplain in the back. Cowardly, yes. Effective, yes.

Oh and as Blackmoor pointed out, not making your raider invulnerable to lance weapons...yeah, don't do that. It makes them extremely dangerous for Eldar players, especially ones running lists like Blackmoor. No mobility, no anti-tank capable of taking your LR down. I guess Eldrad could do it. Or the Avatar, if you let him.

Why don't you have more squads of marines? Just what you have painted? A buddy runs a really nasty Black Templar army, would cut through my old EC list like it wasn't even there. He runs a minimum of 50 marines though. lol my poor EC, had the same S8 issue Eldar do, with alot less mobility!

no offense stelek but your the last person I am going to be taking advice from

There was one eldar player and if I didn't play eldar it would have been wasted points.

The Chaplin was still in affect I just couldn't roll anything over a 3 to hit anyways.
This army does fine and is very effective just rough when you don't win turn 1 and you have bad luck go your ways. If I had won turn one the game might have been very differnt if the dice just would have rolled average.

So how do you like the competition out there?

In Darkwynn's defense the local meta game does not have much in the way of Eldar. At the RTT I played against him in Orlando had no Eldar, and I was the only Eldar Player in Tampa.

And as far as Dark Reapers go I love them. They are great at killing so many things. In this game they killed bikes real easy, and they are good against TMCs, not to mention that they are good at killing marines, and a host of other things. The fact that they can shoot a lot of firepower 48" is great at killing almost everything. Also if you give the Exarch a missile launcher it gives them a lot of versatility.

#1. I heard you won an RTT...what is that about?
#2. What is up with your army being all one color?
#3. Try to beat up on Darrian as much as possible.

The players are good. You get the same where ever you go...a few that are really good, a few that are new. The lists are pretty comp friendly, nothing really over the top except for one Armored Company I saw.

I'm not offended.

Since we're being honest, I think your list is horrid.

You take the main strength of your army and piss it away on crap.

Glad it does fine for ya, speaks volumes on so many subjects...

Stelek,

I love it when I read your post they are full of good laughs.

it goes right along with the eldrad and avatar combo that you says sucks or the jetbike list you have is so awesome.

Dude, it's a good list lol. Lots of shooty and cover + Avatar == free warlocks with some serious counter-charge after they finally get to the line.

Oh, and Eldrad making the shooty shootier and keeping the Avatar alive.

I agree with you there, GBF. Never knew a character not removed till the end of the phase lost his powers because he died at I6. Last I checked, that isn't in the rules.

How did your game fare? Did the Avatar crush your Death Company?

Nope, his Baal Predators took care of the Avatar very early.
