FOR THIS POLL, PLEASE ANSWER HOW YOU CHOOSE TO PLAY THE GAME, NOT NECESSARILY WHAT THE RULES AS WRITTEN (RAW) SAY.

The Deep Strike rules (on page 84 of the rulebook) say: "Troops arriving via Deep Strike may not move or assault on the turn they arrive. They may shoot as normal, but count as having moved."

The Dark Eldar 'Screaming Jets' rules (on page 13 of the DE codex) say: "A vehicle fitted with Screaming Jets can Deep Strike if the scenario normally allows Deep Strike to be used. The vehicle counts as moving over 6" on the turn that it arrives and troops on board may not disembark that turn."

The online GW Space Marine FAQ says: "Q. How far does a deep striking Land Speeder count as moving (under 6", 6-12", over 12")? A. More than 12 [inches]."

QUESTION:When vehicles Deep Strike, how do you treat them in terms of the distance they are considered to have moved, especially in relation to their ability to fire weapons, hitting them in the assault phase and whether or not they can utilize the 'skimmers moving fast' rule?

OPTION A. The closest to the RAW (from what I can tell): Land Speeders count as having moved over 12" (and therefore cannot fire), DE Screaming Jets vehicles count as having moved over 6" (but not more than 12" and therefore may fire and benefit from the skimmer moving fast rule) and all other vehicles (the Monolith, Sentinels, Dreadnoughts arriving by Drop Pod all count as having moved, but not more than 6").

OPTION B. I apply the Space Marine FAQ ruling to all deep striking vehicles, meaning all vehicles (including the Monolith Sentinels and other Deep Striking walkers) count as having moved over 12" and may therefore not fire (except for the Monolith's Power Matrix). However this means that all skimmers (including the monolith) benefit from the skimmers moving fast rule.

OPTION C. I apply the Space Marine FAQ ruling to all deep striking skimmers, which means they count as having moved over 12" and may therefore may not fire but do benefit from the skimmers moving fast rule. However, the Monolith (an exception) and all other deep striking vehicles (walkers) count as having moved, but not more than 6" and may therefore fire and (in the case of the Monolith) do not benefit from the skimmer moving fast rule.

OPTION D. I completely ignore the Space Marine FAQ ruling because I think it is stupid. All Deep Striking vehicles count as having moved, but not more than 6" which means they can fire, but skimmers do not benefit from the skimmers moving fast rule.

OPTION E. I completely ignore the Space Marine FAQ ruling because I think it is stupid. Deep Striking Skimmers count as having moved over 6" (but not more than 12") and may therefore fire and benefit from the skimmers moving fast rule. All other Deep Striking units, including the Monolith (an exception) count as having moved less than 6" and may therefore fire and (in the case of the monolith) do not benefit from the skimmers moving fast rule..

OPTION F.
Something else entirely: reply exactly what it is below.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Along with the Space Marine Landspeeder ruling, they count as moving their maximum distance. So Land Speeders cannot shoot. Land Speeders coming out of a Drop Pod (which I believe they can), can shoot.

Dark Eldar have their exception.

Monoliths can only move 6" so they can shoot.

Drop Pods are immobile, so they can also shoot. Dreads, Sentinels, Infantry, Grandma's Plum Pudding or anything else coming out of a Drop Pod can also shoot on the turn they arrive.

I think that's C.

That's 'A', my friend.

'C' means you play that DE vehicles count as moving over 12" too (because technically their rules don't say they aren't moving over 12", just that they're moving over 6").

Land Speeders can't take Drop Pods (at least not in the current SM codex).

I would like it to be C, but I have no choice but to play it as A by the rules.

Not being able to shoot after drop would be pretty brutal to non-skimmers like sentinels, who derive no benefit from the "additional" movement. If this weren't the case I'd go B all the way to keep it consistent.

I voted A.

I know why the Land Speeder was nerfed, but that's more poor game design and the ruling is stupid.

I'd go with A except that the DE raider/ravager would get the SMF rule... as it's moved over 6"

Did you vote 'F' then eaj?

You were right, 'A' was screwed up, but I corrected it so I think your vote should be 'A'.

Cannot really see how A can be argued against. The rule is fairly obvious and the FAQ and DE trump the rule.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.
