Yeah I can't wait to get started on them either

Any ideas on how to paint a quick scale-like pattern? Seeing as the name of my Harlies is 'Masque of the Tone Serpent' I thought I'd try and do one leg like scales in grey-on-white

Sadly I don't know any tricks to painting scales. Lots of alpha legion marines have scales painted on their armour, perhaps check around for some alpha legion painting guides that may include how to do them?

"We don't recognise your authority here, Harlequin", the exodite barked, his hand poised over the grip of his splinter pistol, "only a fool trusts a servant of the trickster god". A faint hum kicked in as he flexed the fingers of his blood-red gauntlet.

"I come to speak with Lord Laerimyr of the Selestini, Lightbringer, Son of Asuryan." the alabaster figure entreatied, "War comes to the eldar, the seers of the Angvai have forseen it. The warriors of Selesti must join with our forces lest our kin be slain".

A voice boomed through the tangled vines of the throne-room, psychically amplified within the heads of both visitor and guards. "You dare to demand oaths from us, joker? We remember a time when the laughing one was oathbound to fight. Arrayed by the side of the bloody-handed one, he marched to war. When his time came, he forsook his kin and fled. Where was your god when ours fought and died? Coward God we call him."

"Hear me, Godborn Lord. The cycles of myth are not fixed to repeat, they are broken. Where does it speak of The Great Enemy, child of the Eldar? Where in the cycles does it speak of the ape-kin lording over our domain? This galaxy has staggered off its rightful path. Join with us and help us right this."

The horned lord paused, mulling over the emissary's words. "Your point is well made, Harlequin. Kurnous, our father, fought and died for his kin. When the horns of war are sounded, the hunters of Selesti will stalk by your side".

First time painting white. Can you tell?

Can't tell if it looks good or god-awful...

Just thought now that a bit of Blood for the Blood God would look good to give the Caress a bit more of depth to the colour. Also, I do plan on doing some scale-patterns on the right leg when I've figured out how to do them convincingly!

Apart from those little bits, what do you think?

Regardless, finally have a representative of the whole eldar quintet

Harlequin looks good dude, the white looks not bad at all, still has more depth than if you had painted just straight up white. If I'm going to nitpick though it's that I think he needs a bit more coloured bits, it's almost too much white. I'd pick out the kneepads and ankle circlets, you could do metal for the circlets(like his mask) and red for the kneepads to match the glove/ribbons/Mohawk. His left hand glove I'd do in red to match his right. Most importantly though is the shuriken pistol, I feel it needs to be coloured. Having it in the same white as the clothing makes the gun feel as if it was base coated with the model and never finished.

That's just my two cents anyways, you still have a good looking model all the same that I'd love to have facing off against me on the table any day of the week.

Absolutely bashing!

The white looks incredibly good on a harlequinn, I like the lack of color variation, as it really makes it look otherworldly and ethereal, which fits their theme all too well. I also like the subtle reds, as it does tie him in quite well with the rest of the force.

Thanks a lot I_F I'm glad the white came out ok. Oddly it was actually a lot of fun painting it. Less 'colour between the lines' more 'artsy brush swiping wherever I felt it was necessary'

I tried the kneepads in brass first off but found that it really broke up the consistent whiteness of the body (and not in a good way) so I went back to a solid white colour. Thinking about it, I think red might work better but I tend to reserve reds for cloth/fabric. However, I quite like the idea of a freehand rune in red on one of the knee-pads. I'll try that!

I get you on the shuriken pistol. Administratum Grey is a really good colour-match for lightly primered plastic :S again, I tried it in brass but didn't like it. Perhaps just picking out a few details in colour would help.

Believe it or not the circlets are picked out in Runelord Brass! Hasn't got much of a solid coverage that colour...

Thanks a lot too gummy otherworldly is exactly what I was going for!

I figured that most of my other schemes are fairly earthy colours and look sort of natural, but Harlequins are the ones I can get away with veering more towards the unnatural

What do you reckon for the Death Jester? I could go for the same scheme but with a darker grey instead of white...or flip it entirely and have him all blood-red with white highlights...

Looking again I see the brass on the circlets, no idea how I missed that the first time. Sorry bout that.

Freehand runes on the kneepads sounds like a great idea, would love to see that.

For the pistol if you want to leave it grey I'd suggest picking out the gems on it and probably the top "flat bar" piece. I'd imagine that should help it stound out more. Maybe tie it in with some red or pick a secondary colour if you want to keep the reds for cloth.

I'm glad you enjoyed painting the white, after all that is what's most important in the hobby, having fun.

No worries! Looking at the picture they look grey anyway :S

For the pistol I was thinking the top flat bar thing in brass, and then either the ammunition bit in red, the lower half in brass, or both...

Shall give that a go tonight

I think a white Death Jester would be pretty cool, but I would definitely up the blood red-i-ness on him. Maybe a white cloak but make the slightly higher layer of the cloak and the collar bright red.

Yeah I like the idea of a ghostly Death Jester too, but was thinking that it wouldn't really stand out from the rest of the Harlies.

Currently wondering whether it's necessary that he does...

What if rather than inverted with the red, what about going heavy on the brass? Would certainly darken the model which is fitting for a Death Jester.

Decisions :S

I like the idea of inverted colours a bit more. Red with heavy white accents, just so he doesn't blend in /too/ much with your original force.

Me too good point on differentiation from other units in the other armies. Shall have a think about that

Til then, tried out a couple of improvements. Tried the rune in red on the knee-pad but didn't like it. Most of the time I like breaking up the blocks of colour slightly, but it didn't seem to work on this one and made it look a little discordant. Shame because I rather liked it in isolation!

Putting a little colour on select bits of the pistol really helped make it look finished rather than just undercoated

Also tried my hand at some fiddly little scales which I think have done the job of breaking up the block of white while keeping the whole desaturated look intact

Looking very good!

The scales and the such are nicely subtly, but personally I don't think Harlequins need them to look good, so I might not be the best person to ask (although the scales on the left most one look very very nice)

Made in gb
Agile Revenant Titan

Thanks dude yeah I was happy with them before, but I like the scales as that little nod to your usual codex-approved Harlequin schemes none of them will have anything more than one patch of scales or so...

Definitely proud of the scales on the left-hand Harlie was getting a bit shaky by the time I got to the Troupe Master so I'll have to go back and touch them up I think...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here's a thought. If i paint the Death Jester in the same troupe colours...i could make two more troupes with majority black and grey instead of white and have a light, dark and twilight thing going on...

Lovely conversion there, I agree the daemonette head is a great find! Love the irony too haha.

Thanks guys! I'd seen the daemonette head done before for a Solitaire and just had to steal the idea! It fits perfectly for the fluff of Solitaires too, imbued by strange chaotic powers that no-one quite understands

I'm really hoping they remake the Daemonette kit in a more Juan Diaz style. So much of Slaanesh fits really well with Eldar to get some twisted medium inbetween, but it's a shame the base models are chicken-legged hermaphrodites! Much better to use Wych Elves

Glad to head I've cracked the lighting! It's on top of a chest of drawers with the table-lamp laid down on its side, next to a little nook in the wall so the light reflects back around it

Got there eventually!

Well, finished my first Croneworld Cultist yesterday rather pleased with how she came out, although she definitely fell into the uphill struggle category...

I've got an idea in my head for her male counterparts, but that will have to wait til I get some more Harlequin legs.

However, that's not even the most exciting thing today! Not sure if everyone's seen yet, but the eldar models for Fall of Cadia have dropped

Gathering Storm II – First Look – Warhammer Community

While I normally have very little time for named characters in my armies (and the general blinginess of recent 40k character models), these guys have really grown on me. However, the main thing that was racing through my mind is how utterly perfect the Avatar of Ynnead's base body is for my Croneworld unfettered psyker counts-as Lord of Change.

Imagine that crossed with this:

Really love the pose on that Death Jester, so dynamic and menacing. Since the original DJ is a mono-pose model on a decorative base having multiples in your army tends to look weird, yours looks amazing. What are the parts you used in it?

That last photo is very nice and shows off the elegance of the model. Very cool.
