Ok, started a new project - Ice Riders! Sort of a cross between a Sabre-tooth cat and a Taun-Taun. Will be ridden into battle alongside my Vlahallan/Steel Legion ice warriors. Just started the sculpting, but here it is:

That's the most awesome, if slightly tremendously brilliant thing I have seen in a long time. Good creativity!

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags. |

Nothing wrong with admitting to knowing about the Nevernding Story, or even the Dark Crystal. Some good critter design in those! (Also, Nevernding is a great young-adult book by German author Michael Ende, that is well worth reading even as an adult. Sort of ageless like the Hobbit or Through the Looking glass.)
@smiling Assasin. Thanks! Glad you like the teeth. Do you think it would look silly if they were longer?

The head looks fantastic! and the tail / haunch proportion looks very nice! I'd suggest wider "hooves" or "paws" or something more camel-like for the front legs. large heavy things that move on Sand/Snow/Ice don't typically have little feet, as the best way to stop falling through those terrains is to spread your weight out.
Fantastic sculpt though. Far better than anything I've tried.

Well, they will keep you warm until help arrives.
Hmmm... you actually just gave me a good idea for a diorama I can make out of any miscasts I make during the casting process!
@Skipmcne - Thanks! I found this weird prehistoric mammal that I modelled the body proportions after. The paws will get bigger as I sculpt them, those are just little nubbins for me to sculpt over.

It´s a shame that you´re in the states then... Last two times I´ve ordered from people over there, it ended up in Dusseldorf, and they claim that my country is non-existant.
Usually ends up going back and forth until I catch someone on the phone, with access to the package, and redirect it through Denmark....
Veeeery interesting.

Well I work in a company with a few customers in Denmark and they seem to get their stuff all right. I'll have to check with the warehouse to be sure, but I don't think we have especial problems with the Danish post.
I'd be more worried about the pace of work on the molds when I am trying to cast in a 1 bedroom apartment without ruining the carpet or annoying my wife.

Got a little more sculpting done yesterday and put some fur on as well as expanded the base for sculpting the feet. Will hopefully be sculpting more fur later today. If anyone is interested in sculpting and hasn't stopped by Hasslefree miniatures' site yet, I highly recommend it. The WIP section alone is like a giant sculpting tutorial.

You know, I got really excited about that post when I first saw it, then I saw that they were overseas some place and wrote it off the possibilities list because of shipping/exchange rate. It might be worth considering, though. Do you know anyone who has used them?

Hah! That's a great image, thanks! I really appreciate the comments, guys, they make sculpting the massive amounts of fur somehow easier. I tried to take pictures of yesterday's progress, but they were all blurry. It doesn't really matter, though, because it's still the same...just with more fur.

You know what the best part of that movie was when I was a kid? Those wicked nekkid sphinxes that shot lasers from their eyes at the end. That and the talking werewolf. Oh yeah, and the rock-biter. Alright, that movie rocked (for a kids film.) There. I said it. In public, even.

Ok, more fur sculpted! (It was a productive lunch break today.)
I'm learning a lot about sculpting fur. The fur on this side is pretty much done, now on to the next. Then I will finally get to sculpt the feet and that will at least be a change from locks of fur.

all kidding aside, i like it. much better than any other rough rider ideas i've seen so far, and that could easily be from any planet even the deepest jungles of catachan.

Shhhh.....! Don't tell! Besides, these are obviously COMPLETELY UNRELATED to Taun Tauns, which have horns. These have tusks!

Thank you, but see the comment about Tusks vs. Horns above. (Also, these are carnivores. I always though Taun Tauns were herbivores.)
Arran235 wrote:They would be great rough riders for my Ig army.
Yeah, but I'm wondering if there might be other uses too, and if I should cast one without harness first, so that it would be useable for others besides humans.
BDJV wrote:That's lookin' awesome so far!
Thank you very much!
Finally got some work done on the other side, lots of fur and the face pretty close to down. Steel needs a tooth on this side, and some bulking up on the back of the head, as right now the face is kind of lopsided.

Dang, what is with the '80s flash backs here on Dakka? That looks great. Be sweet to see a whole unit of those on the table.
Oh, at WalMart, they have a double DVD of Neverending Story 1 + 2 for something like 9.99 or 12.99. Not that any of you would want to buy that movie or anything.
