I've been lax in talking up the Beijing Warhammer group lately. I've been going when I can, the group has picked up another laowai member, a French guy with some gorgeous Ultramarines. Of course him playing in French & English, me in English and everyone else in Chinese makes for a fun linguistic challenge.

One player has arrived with a fantastic Krieg army.

We also got some great new terrain, an Italiari 1/72 building. It's multi story with 4 rooms per floor and stackable. As soon as they come back in stock here I'll pick some up for myself.

I'd been playing my Grey Knight/Inquisition force lately but I'm now starting with my BLOOD!zerkers. The Genestealer cult is also underway.

Anyhow, here are some photos.

Fantastic stuff. No doubt you will all take a break for a month to watch the Olympics.

So you have a Cadian Tau player? Unusual...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Where in Beijing do you guys play? Is it a gaming club for locals or foreigners? And is there any place to buy GW stuff or do you have to order it online?

I used to live there and don't remember seeing any GW related stuff.

Sweet. Ultras look nice KK. As do the 'zerkers.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

The club is for locals by locals. Oddly enough they got into 40k from Dawn of War. There's someone here who's a GW rep but I've not met him. No stores in Beijing but there's one or two in Shanghai. Everyone mail orders.

I suspect a lot of people get into 40k by way of Dawn of War. I know I did, and honestly when I was younger and 40k was newer, I hated the style of it. Dawn of War, picked up for 10$ on a whim, really changed my perception of the fluff (which had really changed in the 16 years since I first saw it).
My friend Dan got sucked in afterwards as well.

I don't know, but I am guessing DoW really pulls a lot of people into the hobby. Now if only they can get the Koreans to stop playing StarCraft :-P

It is a long time since that is a view....that the structure of tau Empires represent GW's imagination of eastern nations....especially,China.

Yeh,maybe GW really believed that...but in fact,no one would think in that way, here.

We don't think we live in a "TAU" way...so that is no apparent reason to make TAU very popular in China

Yeah where Do you guys play in BJ? Please tell me there is a huge illegal market for GW products as well as everything else western here...and that I just haven't found it yet

Plus that pagoda is hilarious - it is one of the "antiques" you see in every street market, right? I was tempted to pick some of those up for terrain or scenic bases [playing samurai eldar and all], but that takes the cake hahaha!

Cuss you for making me look, took forever to find it. But it's called Berlin House, the kit I've seen has a first floor kit and then expansions for upper floors. You can find it at your friendly neighborhood model shop or online as Squadron.com or other sites.

Dude drop me a line at Kidkyoto@hotmail.com we play on weekends.

Pagodatron and his arch rival Cathedralsaurus Rex have been part of my Inquisition army for years. I got the Pagoda at NYs Chinatown. My plans to add Mosqera are on indefinite hold due to a sudden flaring up of good taste.

I have no comment on pirated GW miniatures in China. None.

Valhallan42nd wrote:China, huh. That has to make Tank Shock a bit awkward...

Yeah and you wanna know what else it means, jokes like that aren't too funny...

Dakka's where I got for fun, let's keep Chinese poltiics out of it, since I deal with enough of that during the day, no one here elected this government and finally there's a good chance a sensitive comment could get Dakka blocked in China. The 'Great Firewall' searches for keyworks (I won't give an example for obvious reasons) and doesn't care if they're in there as a joke or not.

you'd be surprised how similar chinese and american politics are anyway. Americans just dont realize how much crap the rest of the world give them :p not least for not understanding what they are talking about.

I hope we can end the discussion there, as kyoto is very much right, and if Dakka got blocked I would also be fairly bent out of shape, just because.

As for the Pagoda, it is definitely the one you can buy at all the street markets then. Nice. I am a big fan of the trio, you really need to get a Mosqera, hahaha

But you didn't say where you guys actually meet up to play - where is the BJ gaming club??

Well, not so huge...the market of the illegal-copy is narrow.Beijing has a population of more than 12,000,000 ,but only 30(or 40?) of them are 40K player. To whom, does the copy-maker sell his goods?

At the same time,a few kinds of some recently released miniatures' copies(like DKoK) could be find,on some local online-shops.

It is in the second floor of a Hospital which stand near the [Beixinqiao] subway station.

I think Kyoto would have the address

I for one, certainly wouldn't be interested in any such thing.

Those ultramarines were nice indeed, and the Chaos termies brought back memories. Sounds like the small community is going strong and having fun.
