I Played the Orcs and Gobbos first round. I sat back and let him come to me. However, my mortars misfired all but once, helblasters misfired, and cannons overshot all but once (planed for a 6 bounce and rolled 10 every time). I only killed 390 points, 205 of which was a giant. Last turn (3-opponent took forever to get ready), I had manuevered my lines to have my archers and crossbows flee, so he would hit swordsmen and get flanked by Halberds. It worked, however, down 8 in combat res, the Savage orc need insane courage. Of course, they got it, and our draw, turned into a solid victory.
on a side note, how many points is a 20 man squig unit, 1/2 points of 5 Wolf Riders, 1/2 of 5 wolf riders, bolt thrower, and a giant? I believe it is way more than 390 points, but I could be wrong.
2nd game, I faced the lizardman guy with temple guard. We played a weird scenario called, Mexican Staring Frog of Sri Lanka (from South Park). Had to run to center of the board, pick up the frog, and make it off of your own board with it. Could pick it up by making and initiative test. If you fail, you die instantly, no saves of any kind. I set up in front of the Frog with 2 Helblasters, 2 mortars, and a cannon on each flank to side shot anything. My swordsmen and halbers were each on a flank to move up and grab table quarters, and my flaggies were next to the helblasters to go pick up the frog. Well, I picked up the frog, losing 2 Flaggies. My helblasters misfired on the first attempts, mortars misfired, and a cannon misfired. I was able to hold the frog all game for 500 points, and I held 2 quarters. I had destroyed the knights, a unit of warriors, the chameleons, and another warrior to half. I got a solid victory. He dinged me on comp even though all of my warmachines but one misfired. He also dinged my on sports because I knew his rulebook better than he did. I guess people don't like it when you catch them flubbing the rules several times.
Last game I faced the Nurgle daemons. Mercy me. He went first and charged forward. After successfully firing the Helblasters with 46 shots, the GuCo had 4 wounds left. He also survived 2 cannon balls with a ward save. Amazingly, my xbows, archers, and handgunners tore up the bloodletters and some plaguebearers. On turn 2 he was in combat with my warmachines and wizards, killing off the mortars, helblasters, and mages. Luckily, his units overran into 2 cannonball paths. His GuCo miscast too, wounding himself. My turn 2 saw a single handgunner putting a wound on the GuCo. I charged into his dogs with my swordsmen and they popped. Turn 3, his GuCo wiped my a unit of handgunners and the archlector, only to be hit with two cannon balls the next turn and die. The blood letters were shot to peices. By the end of the game, all he had left was 2 plague bearers, and the BsB. Amazingly, I won every combat, mainly due to ranks and flanks with my swordsmen. The way the table was set up, my flaggies never got within 12 inches of his army. Major Victory for me.
Turns out I lost 2nd by .333 points. I only had half my army painted too, so my other scores couldn't have been too bad compared to everyone elses.
The overall Winners was a well painted Lizardman army that went 3-0, second was the Hordes of Chaos who also had a well painted army. I ended up with third.
Sorry for the short, jumbled report, but I have work to do.
Next time I will be running a Walter, Giant, 4 Ogre Bulls, 2 Cannons, 3x5 Knights, Pistoliers, and infantry.....gonna try something new out.
