Just a quick army I decided to put together. It's looks like it'd be very good at krumpin' infantry, with some tank potential too thanks to the SAG (and possibly the Deff Dread). The Mek stays back and fires off that SAG at anyone with heavy weapons or tanks, sucking in the ammo runt if his shot scatters an unsatisfactory distance. The Boyz will go after units other than tanks that can threaten the Dread. The Dread stomps forward, frying units until they're unrecognizable and then charging them. Keep the Dread away from power fists.

As you can see, this is built around the Deff Dread. This is because I absolutely love the model and would like to see it being used on the table. I figured it'd be lethal in a small game because not too many armies have access to power fists and other decent anti-tank at 500 points, not without using a whole whack of points. Still curious of a couple of things:

Can you take more than 1 ammo runt?
Am I the only one who thinks the Ravenguard sub-faction in 5th is fromage?

EDIT: Changed a couple of things in the army. The Deffkopta was taken out. The Boyz mobs now have Nobs with Big Choppas and Boss Poles. The Dread now has Armor Plates.

you can use the ammo runt to reroll the scatter on the SAG.

1.As to multiple ammo runts, idk for sure. You could in the old dex (up to 3), but you might want to check with someone at gw for that. ATM im going to have to say no, cause it doesnt say you can.

2.Yea dreads can shoot all their weapons and move and assault. they "count as stationary" when it comes to firing weapons.

3.All hail the black winged cheese monsters from hell.

Orks can krump em though! Orks can do annyfing, right? Wait, what? You get to move HOW FAR??? your termies do WHAT??? WTF???

The mental image I get from the technique is drift racing... in a Land Raider.

Thanks for the help, I'll ask a red shirt about multiple ammo runts the next time I see one.

I recently found out that my local Games Workshop that they are hosting an event called the "Winter WAAAGH!," where players come and field armies of around 450 points to battle against a 4000 point Ork army. I intend to take part in this so I'm wondering if this army will have a chance. I figure one will fight a whole trukk-load of infantry, most if not all of them being Sluggas so the Deff Dread and the SAG should help thin them out a bit before they get swamped. What do you guys think? Would this army do well against such a horde?

Btw, all entry players will fight the 4000-pointer at once, not one at a time.

You mean the idea that every marine has fleet?

Why would you think that is broken?

I mean, other races have to pay for it (crappy army, 3 toughness etc)

I think it is perfectly balanced that terminator hordes can potentially make an 18" charge. I mean Eldar have 18" range weapons and they might even kill 1 or 2 terminators. Don't you think that is fair?

I noticed in the WD battle reports. They didn't pull this guy out. I could have laughed if they ran this against the eldar in that battle report.

I mean orcs and chaos berzerkers only got this option in apocalypse games. You know, the games where the baneblade pie plates just eat up infantry hordes. This is one that truly bothers me but in their wisdom, they thought it an OK addition.

first off, why would they all be sluggas if they are on foot? if it isnt a themed horde, they should all have shootas, meaning you should either take shootas as well, along with kans with grotzookas and a KFF mek

or

a mek with an SAG.

even if it is themed, and the horde is made up of sluggas, take shoota boyz. always better. just make sure you get the charge in, as whenever its orks v orks, whoever gets the charge in almost always wins

I'm fairly certain that it's going to be themed, knowing gw.

Kans with grotzookas, hmm? If I could open up some points I could include one or two. Without removing the Dread of course lol.
