Me and a friend picked up a Mighty Empires box and we're having some issues when it comes to painting it. The few tests we've done to get the greens in grass/forests come out right haven't worked so well. Does anyone happen to know which colors were used in the promo pictures GW displays? Or has anyone had experience painting the tiles up and has some advice/pictures to get good forest and grassland colors? Thanks in advance.

I guess that would all depend on your ability to paint.

If you're absolutely new to the world of painting, please let us know. You should never trust 'Eavy Metal's ability to tell you what paints they use (In fact, for the most part you'll find that they use Vallejo and just TELL you that they endorse GW Paints), and at best they'll be able to give you a general idea of the shade.

I'm not too familiar with the Mighty Empires Box though, so I don't know exactly what you're looking for.

Drybrushing is superfast and looks great, then go back and pick out the details. You could even use washes.
they paint up really nice with almost no effort.

Neither one of us is new to painting. We've both had several armies over the past few years, and while our skills don't rank up in Golden Deamon land, I'd say they're average to slightly above.

What we're looking to do is mimic as closely as possible the picture GW has of Mighty Empires on their website:



A few tests we've done to get the greens to come out have so far not been successful. I'm not sure the exact color combination he's tried, but can find that out.

I wasn't able to find any kind of painting how-to on GW's site or in the White Dwarf where the box sex was featured, which is why I turned to the Dakka community. I'm hoping someone has painted the items up to good success, and can impart their knowledge of colors and techniques used in getting there.

@Kardos: Yea we had assumed drybrushing would be the quickest and easiest techniques to use. I hadn't thought about the washes though. That might be a good idea to add a bit more depth to the tiles. We'll have to look into that.

I have not painted my set yet, but I did paint a few test tiles, and I can tell you that using a white primer is key. The colors listed on the box should get you pretty much to the colors shown, but expect to do quite alot of blending.

Also, using google earth to look at rivers and mountains would probably be a good idea if you want to make everything look slightly less "cartoony".
