Hey guys, I have a quick question.

I recently spotted a 'Salamanders Tactical Squad' boxed set for sale, and it set off my shopping klaxons something fierce, because I'm making a start on my own Salamanders force.

I've never seen this box. I've been told it was a release around Codex: Armageddon, as a way of pushing the Sallies a bit. I have no idea what's inside here. Now, from the looks of it, this has a multimelta inside, and maybe a flamer, along with the ol' tac squad stuff.

Is it just wishful thinking, or do the shoulder pad icons look raised? Could they possibly be sculpted detail on the shoulderpad, rather than just an applied decal over a standard shoulderpad? (I'm extremely wishful that this is the case, since GW's never produced Salamander shoulderpads) Is there anything special in this box at all, as far as Salamanders go? I have read they had their own decal sheet in here, but is there anything else?

Thanks. I'll probably be trying hard to win the bid on this, but all the same I'd like to know what I'm getting.

I belive it had metal shoulder pads (dragon heads, which you can get from GW), a plasma gun, and the melta gun. Not too much in excess of the standard plastic sprue if you do not like the pads.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

It included the standard old school tactical boxset of two sprues totalling 10 marines. It did not include the old school tactical assessory spruce with flamer, missile launcher and sergeant weapons.

Instead it included an even older minim close combat weapon sprue IIRc three pairs of bolt pistols and chainswords and a small plastic box containing a metal multi melta and metal plasma gun.

No chapter specific iconography is included.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

FW has Salamander Terminator shoulder pads but none for tac squads.

Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with windows.

There are salamander icons on the space marine transfer sheet if I recall.

Well if you want icons on the shoulders you have two options really.

Either use the Alpha Legion shoulder pads with the hydra on it: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat180006&prodId=prod1110171&rootCatGameStyle=

or buy these custom should pads:

I'm not associated with the guys from b-town, but I do like some of their shoulder pads.

Saddly neither the Alpha Legion pads nor the b-town custom pads look right.. Just my opinion, but if forgeworld has terminator pads, you'd think they'd do the ones for standard marines.. it's just one daggone sculpt or 6 if you make it similar to some of the other pads they've done.
