10x Scouts split into 2 combat squads incl. Telion
5x scouts a. sniper rifles & heavy bolter (hellfire rounds) incl. Telion
5x scouts w. combat blades & bolt pistols
Landspeeder storm

10x tactical Marines w. multi-melta, meltagun, combi-melta & power fist - rhino
10x tactical Marines w. multi-melta, meltagun, combi-melta & power fist - rhino

Opponent's list:

Lash prince w. wings, icon
Lash prince w. wings, icon

3x Oblit
3x Oblit
3x Oblit

4x (5x Nurgle Marine w. 2x meltagun & power fist - rhino)

Mission:
Capture & Control, Dawn of War

I chose to start with all units off the table moving onto my deployment zone the first turn. My opponent did the same and held both princes and his Oblits in reserve so he could deep strike them. I won the roll for first turn and decided to go second.

1st turn
On comes all four Nurgle rhinos setting up shop around their objective. My opponent had placed his objective deep in a corner.

My turn on comes everything. Shooty scouts move and run into some area terrain for the cover save. My two rhinos move towards my objective which I placed close towards the center of the table. Both rhinos pop smoke. LRC rolls up behind the dual rhinos for cover save. Landspeeder Storm moves in at cruising speed off to the side of my tanks using them as a screen.

2nd turn
One daemon prince and one Oblit squad come in from reserve. They both are placed close to my objective and the prince scatters towards my tanks. Nothing is in lash range that can be lashed. Two Nurgle rhinos move up to support Oblits. Oblits open up on one rhino with multi-meltas and shake it.

My turn LRC pulls up in front of prince while both rhinos pull up to either side with one squad disembarking on back side from prince. Landspeeder Storm moves six inches to target prince. LRC unloads everything on prince and drops three wounds... one from multi-melta, another from rending assault cannon and another from hurricane bolters. Landspeeder Storm targets prince but fails to wound but Telion and his scouts drop the prince with rending sniper rifles. Tactical Marines in rhino drop two of the Oblits with meltagun and combi-melta. Rhino fires storm bolter at last Oblit but fails to wound.

3rd turn
In comes another squad of Oblits and second prince. Two forward Nurgle rhinos pull up to contest central objective and remain embarked. Prince lands beside LRC and does not scatter. Oblits scatter back into their deployment zone. Nurgle Marines open up on LRC with meltas. One squad is just outside 1/2 range... one melta hits and the other misses. The hit glances and destroys the multi-melta. The Nurgle rhino inside 1/2 range shoots both meltas and both miss. Newly arrived Oblits are look to be outside of 1/2 range to the LRC and fire lascannons... one stunned result which is ignored because of Chronus. Last Oblit from first unit fires multi-melta into LRC, hits but fails to penetrate. Lash prince cannot see the disembarked tactical Marines.

My turn Marneus and super friends disembark, lining up to charge lash prince and single Oblit. Marneus shoots the Oblit with his super bolter and does one wound. LRC fires everything into lash prince and does two wounds. Telion and his scouts target lash prince for another wound. Tactical Marines already disembarked move around their rhino and fire into the lash prince for its wound. Landspeeder Storm fires into three Oblits but no wounds. Marneus and friends charge single Oblit and Nurgle Marines, destroying both units in exchange for one assault terminator.

4th turn
In comes the last squad of Oblits. Nurgle Marines holding rear objective sit still. Newly arrived Oblits land beside Marneus and super friends... destroyed on mishap drifting into super friends. Other squad of Nurgle Marines disembark. Single Oblit and forward Nurgle Marines fire into LRC... knock off assault cannon and stun it. Nurgle Marines and single Oblit charge Marneus and super friends... both Chaos units destroyed with no losses in return.

My turn Landspeeder Storm with assault scouts zoom on top of central objective. Marneus and super friends climb back into LRC and roll up towards rear objective.

5th turn
Nurgle Marines disembark behind rhinos which move a bit to block off rear objective.

My turn LRC rams one rhino and destroys it. Marneus and super friends spill into Nurgle Marines to contest rear objective FTW.

I'm curious why your opponent chose to hold his firepower in reserve. It seems pretty obvious (to me, at least) that in this setup, he is the 'shooty' army, and you are the 'assault' army.

Given that as a basic assumption, holding his oblits in reserve, especially when he's going first, was a HUGE mistake. One that quite obviously cost him the game.

There is no reason that he shouldn't have walked his obliterators onto the table on turn one, used the night fighting to prevent you from having much chance of killing anything, and started unloading massed lascannons at that land raider starting on turn 2.

What skill level would you say your opponent is? I'm not saying your list is bad or his is good, but I'm not sure your opponent knows what he is doing with his list.

Pretty good, although I agree with Redbeard and your opponent seemed to be making every wrong move. Pictures next time?

Also, your opponent's list is slightly incorrect: Daemon Princes can't have Personal Icons.

He said afterwards he wanted to hold the princes in reserve so he could bring them in a better position to use lash. He was confident he could hold his objecive and wanted the Oblits in a better position to use their multi-nrltas at 1/2 range. His dice were epic while mine were typical considering how I usually roll. I placed my objective in a position to force him to move some of his army towards the center of the table so I could engage him sooner and be in a position to shoot back at him.

My opponent has been playing lash spam for quite awhile. He told me that when I placed my one objective in the center it caught him off guard and he made some bad desicions as a result. He was thinking I was going to place my objective back in a corner as well so he would have more turns to shoot more of his guns at my tanks.

Your opponent did everything wrong, almost to such an extent that he did everything perfectly wrong.

I'm not saying this didn't happen, but...

Did this actually happen?

He played a two objective mission.

He has 9 lascannons.

His opponent has 3 tanks and 1 speeder.

Seems like an easy game to me if he doesn't decide to keep everything good in his army in reserve, and then bring it in one unit at a time..

Step 1: Blow up tanks
Step 2: Lash the total of 3 dangerous squads around the board willy nilly

Also, 5 sniper rifles downed a lash prince cold?

5 rifles = 3 hits = 1.5 wounds = Gah wha?

Two meltaguns dropping two oblits?

2 meltaguns = 1.2 or so hits = 1 wound =4/6 unsaved wounds...

If it really happened, congrats, but lash spam isn't normally easy to beat

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

The Prince had already taken three wounds. Did you just decide not to read the preceding sentence?

I agree that the Chaos player played terribly, but if GBF did indeed manage to keep his non-vehicle units out of LOS of the princes, then well done.

It is still hard to believe. I've never seen anyone deep strike anything in a Dual Lash list. I know I'd never do that either.

I'm not really bashing him for this one but I personally believe 3x (10x PMs, 2x Melta, Ch. W/ PF in Rhino w/ Havoc Launcher) is more the norm and a better build. They don't get assaulted off the table as easy as five of them will.

Once upon a time, I told myself it's better to be smart than lucky. Every day, the world proves me wrong a little more.

G., congratulations on the win.
But as the other posters already said, your opponent made some key mistakes.
The Obliterators should be placed on the table in order to target tanks and the DPs can be held back to lash passengers of destroyed tanks.

Yes I agree he played to my strengths. Let's see what he come up with in the rematch. I don't he will deep strike again.

A smart player would keep the army together, with all units beginning at the table.
If he's able to stop your LR early in the game, you might run into problems.
