Not quite hills but effective at blocking LOS, providing cover on the edges and adding colour to my orange-brown board. Work well enough with craters and the ruin set for getting close to 25% terrain coverage...

I have included some shots with models to show LOS blocking for TMC and Skimmer. These were earlier works and don't see as much play as they once did. Still, my Warp Spiders love them

Comments appreciated. Note the whole set probably cost $20-$30 to make.

What did you make them out of? They look quite nice.

Those are very effective! I would consider making some flat spots in a sort of winding path to make them a bit more playable as well.

Nice work. Great Idea. Consider it stolen ^_-.

Cheers, folks!

Malfred: I'll take a look at the article section and start putting something together. I've got other things on the go (a three week old daughter among those) I won't promise a date this will be done.

Luna: I hadn't planned on making anymore though I think I have a couple still unfinished.

Typeline: The basic materials are:
foam card (base)
great stuff expansion foam (actual hill) home depot sells for about $4
Three different bottles of craft paint
Sand
Plastic plants

Gray Death: Thanks, and very flattering! The lack of flat spots is why I prefer my newer hills. I haven't tried cutting the Great Suff with a foam cutter but it should work. Another idea I had was to press some styrofoam blocks into the foam before it had set. That should create places for models to stand. I think my biggest problem with the hills is that they really favour jump infantry and I *love* jump infantry!

Very impressive. I need to finish my board as well. However too many armies to paint. Good reminder how great a table can look.

how does the foam card hold up as the base? does it stay nice and flat or does it warp?

I usually use thin cardboard, but it tends to warp pretty badly.

Warping was minimal for these pieces. Now, that I have a workshop, I'll be using MDF board.

Card stock has done the same as you are describing. A real pain, for sure.

Thank you. Yeah, as you can see my armies have a lot of love to go before they are finished. I made a personal decision that I would rather see some unpainted models on a decent board then vice cersa. I also figured I could get more people excited if they could fight on decent terrain. In the long run I can use this terrain for all my armies and even different games. I paint one army and I only get to use it in the games I play that army.... That's my math anyhow

Good stuff, I think I'll steal it as well. The plants are good quality. Thought they were aquarium ones at first, but they look like they've been stripped from office plants. Is this right? (Flashman looks furtively round his office for any plastic pot plants that need er... pruning).

Good find in terms of the plastic pot plant. It works really well. Hopefully I can dig out something similar in the UK.

Those came out really well.

I don't think you need to make flat spots. You can just place them close together, and that in its self will make paths inbetween them.
