As soon as I saw the Battlewagon model I felt there was special potential to it. I just wasn't sure what it was.
Then it hit me.

The plan: Get a Battlewagon and reverse-loot it into a counts-as land raider for my in-the-works Inquisitor.
He and his men are themed as a special forces / SWAT -style cityfight force so a massive SWAT-van land raider should fit the bill perfectly!
Pictures will be provided as soon as I get the work on.

Sounds like a good idea.

how would you represent the assualt ramp at the front though?

A little part of me dies when it thinks of a puritan Inquisitor reading the Rites of Damnation to a heretic then throwing him off a ladder through a table.

Well my plan was to either say "The big plate on the front lifts up and the ramp is behind it" or actually make the big plate movable and have a set of stair behind it going into the wagon.
I know it sounds a bit silly but I think it would work.

The BW looks good without the big armoured prow.

I like this idea, I do recommend the extra effort to make it match a land raider, e.g. extra armour on the sides and back, side sponsins etc. A front access ramp wouldn't be impossible, especailly if you move the driver position (doesn't have to be right at the front). Hmm, you could reverse the whole vehicle so that the front is at the back and vice versa, that would certainly make the ramp thing easier.

The other question to keep in mind is whether the inquisitor has rebuilt it after looting it or it was already quite land raiderish when he looted it - either would work, but could affect your design.

And how about reverse-looting some trukks to make rhinos? (They'd also make great counts-as Chimeras for an IG force, even without the looting theme - the core of the trukk is a quite sensible truck chassis

A few ideas I've been thinking about:
-Sponsons and HBolter cupola guns made out of IG Heavy Weapon platform guns (I think they would fit the look better than the HUGE Landraider ones)
-Rear ramp. I'll find some silly reason to play it like that. Either the thing moves backwards or pulls a 180 at the end of the movement or something. As far as i can tell, building the whole wagon backwards would look awkward at best.
-Front plow/plate decorations. Drawing a bit from East Germany/Soviet Union where the police would at times drive into protesters with trucks with large plows on them, this thing will have something like a large Aquila on the front with "The Emperor comes, get out of the way" written under it and large blood splatters on the plow/plate itself.
-Some extra armouring all over the thing. 14/14/14 needs to properly shown.

Regarding the trukk idea, I'll look into it. It seems like a harder task though, as the trukk is a lot more "orky" with all the jagged bits and bare engine block and all.

I think itll fit the bill for what your planning on doing. Oddly enough I dont like the new battlewagon for Orks but un Ork-ifying it would make it a nice looking model for something. good luck

if you do use IG weapons, try mounting the lascannons one above the other instead of side by side, just to give a different look

WOW!

This is a great idea!

It figures that an Inquisitor might have a 'custom job', so to speak...

Nicely done!

Looking good so far.

A thought: as ork-looted imperial vehicles often have defaced imperial icons, should this inquisitor-looted ork vehicle have defaced ork icons? ccould give you some inreresting army background, if for example this wagon is a trophy taken after winning some famous man-on-ork duel with a warlord

because stealing an ork tank is something to be proud off. thats like trading a mustang in for a broken down beetle.

this looks great though, it'll be cool to see if you put this much work into in the inquisitors squad as well.

I dunno...

Nice concept and execution, one thing though, IMO the plates on the wheels look a bit too Orky and irreuglar, if you file them down and put either some or some / / on them, it might help

Agreed. You need to replace them with something less Orky. The large wheels from a Tank sprue could work. Or you could use Old School Ork Trukk tires. They are pretty regular.

Nice job.

You could make the wheels more armoured and uniformed to make them even more special forces/SWAT.

Its a unique day when Ork vehicles are being Looted for the Imperium! Looks like GW did a sterling job on this kit!

totally awesome. I think my chaos is going to have to do this. the wheels are the only weak spot. either dremmel off the plates or source different wheels.

I also think the wheels look to unregular, you could go with two sets of tracks if you don't think you can find poper wheels? I've seen the entire track set go as bits for only 6 pound sterling so it would be pretty cheap too

Wow, I heard some people talk about it, but that's a pretty good start there. I would also suggest to use other wheels, those look a bit too Orky.

Fluff-question: Is it supposed to be an Ex-Battlewagon? Because I can't really imagine an Inquisitor using it, even after the whole ride-pimpin'. He'd never get the smell out anyway

Any progress on the staircase idea? It sounds pretty cool, but the would have to build the Aquilla-plow moveable.

Keep it up. I want to see it finished!

Edit: Just a thought, if your Inquisitor drives right into the enemy with his new awesome ride, shouldn't you consider using other weapons then the standard Landraider stuff. A Redeemer or or Crusader would work much better imo.

awesome model, however i did just hear every TFG cry out in unison "theirs no way that thing is armor 14!", on a serious note the conversion is very well executed, i'm curious to see how the whole thing turns out
