I think I am going to finally break down and try ravenwing bikes in my Deathwing army. (Read: inquisitorial terminator army that uses DW rules)

The problem is, I really don't enjoy the look of the bikes.

But over on warseer, there is an austrian fellow who made his own ravenwing bikes and I kinda like the style. Really reminiscent of Rogue Trader era aesthetic sensibility, but without looking like a deodorant stick converted into a vehicle.

I recognize some bits on there. Catachan sentinel RTM, the bike running boards made to look like a bumper of sorts.
The guy never responded as to any WIP shots or any hints on how he built them.

While these are nice, do any of you have any suggestions on what other models would make a good robot that could represent RW bikes and attack bikes?

First off, the color of bikes need to be black, if you are doing Ravenwing.

These bikes are backwards. 3/4 of original space marine bike model is there.

Why do you want robotic bikers? Are your terminators robots? Show some pics of your DW

Well just to make it clear, I am only using darkangels rules, so thats where any resemblance to DA ends.

Here is a link to my DW army.

I want something other than space marines riding a bike, but representing a space marine bike, hence the pictures in the original post.
It doesn't have to be a GW model really, but I guess it would help in the nearly non existent chance I ever decide to go to a tourney where GW models are required.

I am having difficulty finding anything suitably apropos though, so I may end up just using the SM bike converted as above unless someone else has any ideas.
Hell, it could be a tracked vehicle, 6 legged walker, I don't care as long as it matches the size of a bike within reason.
Suitable proxies for attack bikes would be really appreciated as well.

Yay! Great to see more work on the Ordo Sepulturum.

When I was considering getting back into Deathwing, I was considering adding some Ravenwing as well and was looking at doing jetbikes as well. Here's what I collected along the way:

- This one's my favorite, and with the exception of the plasticard work doesn't actually seem to be that difficult of a conversion. This is Tiriel from B&C's jetbike:

There are more pics in this thread: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?showtopic=121562&hl=. I PMed with him about how he did it, so if you like this method, I'll PM you with what he said about it.

- Then there's Major Buzzmore's jetbikes seen here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?showtopic=129949&hl=. I'm not as fond of them, but some folks might like them.

- Then you have Elijah7's jetbike - also a fairly simple conversion. This was my second-favorite and I thought looked pretty cool.

Check out more about them here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?showtopic=124021&hl=

- Then there are The Damned One's pre-heresy jetbikes here: http://grabski-jetbike.blogspot.com/ - complete with tutorial on how he did them.

These ones look really cool, but require lots of kits to build them.

- Finally, we've got Doggeh's jetbike here:

Again, I'm not as excited about this one, but YMMV.

Hope this helps you some! Granted, you start to run into problems when you try to figure out how to make an attack bike....

Hey thanks DBM.

This gives me a bunch of inspiration if I end up going with making the SM bike robotic.

Alright, I have decided that after exhaustive research on this, there really isn't many options that offer a robotic scouting type of vehicle. So I am going to bite the bullet and modify the Austrian's idea a bit and go from there.

The catachan sentinel chainblade looks a bit hokey to me, so that element is going to be omitted. Rationale for that decision is that the robotic hoverbike simply rams the opponent like a bullet train (I like the front end idea of using the kick plate as a front 'bumper') when and if it ever goes into HTH.

I am thinking of mounting the rear jet of a landspeeder on the rear of the bike for the jet engine, and that cities of death lamp he has mounted on the side of one of the bikes gives me inspiration to take two and mount them underneath each bike to serve as suspensors for antigrav.
Since each bike is also equipped with a teleport homer, I am thinking of mounting the tiny radar assembly that comes with the space marine vehicle accessory sprue. I am not sure if this will work well yet, but its a preliminary idea.

That leaves the ranged weapon options to deal with. I fancy how normal bikes have two bolters mounted near the front, so that probably wont change.
There will be a flamer and a meltagun in each of the two squads as well as a multimelta attack bike for each squad. There is a need to get rid of the seat somehow, so perhaps mounting the flamer and melta somewhere off either side of the bike where the seat is with the scanner array found on the landspeeder kit to fill in that area and disguise that it used to be a seat.
For the multimelta attack bikes, the same idea more or less as with the flamer and melta, except mounted above the bike, in a faux turret style. I would like to make a beefier attack bike, but I think this will work.

Thats all I have come up with so far. Any comments or suggestions on this idea?

Hope this isn't to late.

I've been making jetbikes for a while and based mine on a combination of the original Rogue Trader jet bikes and the Australians (gradski?) but I did not use any dark eldar parts. The air intake is made by cutting and repositioning the front mud guard. The underslung bolters and blade are inspired the rogue trader bikes. The jet engine is made from the lid of a GW glue tube. I also use the nozzles from space marine backpacks as vectored thrust nozzles.
These are some of my latest models.I am in the process of posting a WIP on Bolter and Chainsword. Just need to take some pics of my other models.

Your doing DA. They originally rode horse like animals in the Chapters on the DA homeworld before it was destroyed. You could always buy marauders or chaos night and model marines on them.

Err...no...as Hellfury said at the top of his post:

It's not a DA army.

Hey, Hellfury, instead of thinking in terms of things looking like bikes, what about using bike bases, but making some other type of robot that will count as bikes? I've seen some pretty cool tracked servitor models that would work well in this capacity. And considering the Ordo Sepulturum has sort of a medical theme to them, you could give them a vaguely medical servitor look - things like bitz from Apothecaries/Fabius Bile/Mad Doks/etc. Even the Catachan chainsaw might be appropriate if combined with the right other waldoes and such. Bolters and other heavy weapons could be cutting lasers. I need to fire up my laptop to get some pics, but I know I've got some pics of some unique tracked Heavy Weapon servitors that might serve as some inspiration.

Okay, so, I recognize that these ones are pretty OTT, especially for what you're doing - but, I was thinking that doing a bipedal, mechanical servitor roughly in the shape of these based on bike bases might make for some pretty cool count-as Ravenwing:

But the ones that I was digging for in my downloaded pictures were some Heavy Gun Servitors converted by Event Horizon Miniatures (these pics are so old, I can't even remember who Event Horizon Miniatures was unfortunately - they had some really nice conversions, though!)

Put those suckers on some bike bases and arm them as you please and you might be in good shape!

I really like the first ones, you should steal...err... copy those ones, just add some handlebars and put the guys on top....

Please note - terms like 'always/never' are carried with the basic understanding that there are exceptions to the rule, and therefore are used to mean generally...
