In the first section of Take Saving Throws (p.20) it says that a player CAN test if his troops avoid damage by taking a saving throw. Does that mean that I can refuse to take a save in order to remove models as casualty?

Also, can I chose to use the worse of two saves? Lets say my Archon with a Shadow Field on a jetbike turbo boosts, can I chose the 3+ cover save to avoid the possibility of losing my Shadow Field?

As far as I know about taking the worst saving throw...It is utterly your choice as to which Save you take. I see np w/ taking the 3+ from turboboosting and I don't think the rules stand against it.

As to whether you must take a save if you have it, my gut says you are not required to use a save..but let's see where the discussion goes.

From rereading the section on saves just now, you don't have to roll your save, but you always use the best available save (according to page 24, "Models with more than one save").

Thanks for the replies.

It seems that it is possible to decide not to take armour saves. This gives shooty armies an significant advantage since its even harder now to stay locked in combat for long.

I also noticed the passage regarding models with more than one save. As I read it though it does not seem as a rule that you have to chose the best only that its the most sensible thing to do. The rule it self really does not say implicitly that you have to use the save and the example only covers a situation were its best anyway, without saying that you must. Any thoughts?
