I'm trying to come up with a semi original paint shceme for a tyranid army. I went for an earthy bug look, there is still a little work to be done on the base and maybe a hardline edge highlight on the armour plates. Any way here are the pics, lemme know what you think!!

I've seen some Tyranid armies that utelize more natural colors. They look very cool when in mass. I think you've got a good start on the color scheme and should expand on the army.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

This is definately a great start and ofc a good color range. Very earthy. Just a suggestion, search for some real bugs (preferrably online) that may have a similiar coloring. You may find some things like patterns for the hard shells of the 'nids.

I like it. I agree with the images of REAL bugs for inspiration. Specially on the bigger nids. Those guys look bland as all get out if you use the exact same color scheme as the smaller ones. When you do get the real bug pics save the crazy patterns and whatnot for the big nids

Not that fond of the brown and green, probably because the earthy colors in the green makes the colors blend too much together. Have you thought of black, instead of brown. Alternatively, going with a darker shade of green for the carapace?

Here is a guy a just did real quick. Black undercoat and no green wash, the other one had a white undercoat and green wash put on. Can you guys tell a difference, if so which one do you like better?

A picture of each, taken in the same position and light, would help.

Yes its hard to tell with the lighting on both models. I like the earthy tones, if it was me I would spice up the bigger nids by highlighting edges of armour with a light green/browny mix. I wouldn't know where to start with the wet looking stuff though, maybe light greens?

From a quick glance id say the only real diffrence is the tone of the green, but its hard to tell, they would probubly fit together in a "squad"(dono what you call a squad of nids) cos like people id presume no 2 nids are the same,

If you stick with green an brown be pretty cool to base em with some foliage or maybe a swampy theme.

However, I like them but I agree they run the risk of looking bland when in a large group (Y'know, like IG) both then again, most 'Nid armies do blend together. Black with a purple/blue thin ink glaze on the hard parts (like a beetle) maybe or some contrasting color on the tiny 'Nid bits. Just my thoughts, but an interesting pallette.
It's hard to tell from the lighting of those two but the top one looks better to me.

Looks good, i would be tempted to make some terrain like woods or jungle so that your nids just blend right in.

Here the two are side by side. The one on the left has the green wash on it. Tell me what you think and if you have any ideas let me know. I am planning on making some terrain just for these guys, hopefully i will get around to that soon. Anyway C&C is always welcome.

I like the brightness of the green wash I would reccomend it for the smaller nids and the scheme without the wash for the big 'uns + a drybrush of an off white of light brown/gray to give them a molting look. Back in theday my friend had a nid army that was scorpion green and some such gray. It looked very sharp. Greens are great colors for nids, keep up the good work.

I agree, a swampy look on the base would set the models off. I like the earth tones.

may i sugest something that might bring up the detail of the bone detale, maby if you give that a fairly wattery brown wash just to get into all the bits that would make them stand out a but more, or even jjust in the deep parts of the blades.
Other than that Great job! I have seen some bad painted Nids in mt time(even how short it is... some are even on displey at the local GWs!) But thats another story!
 (sorry for my abismal spelling!)

Nice scheme, it definitely conveys the 'earthy' aspect your going for.
Personally, I like the one with the green done over the black, it has a bit more of an olive tinge to it than the other one. I think it matches the brown carapice a bit better.
Keep it up!
