Battleship Captain

Shinies: Noun, Adjective: A soldier who was hastily trained to wage war, and will actually recieve a much more thorough training in battle. As they have not seen battle before their armor is brand new, clean, and shiny.

Trooper 6825692-HVY, aka Heavy, drummed his fingers on the desk in front of him. For weeks he and the rest of the listening post garrison had done nothing but sit, get cold, and take turns as the Deck Watch. Their one respite was to listen to the Vox Station 107 The Skull as it blasted what they considered "real music". He thought it was loud, disgusting, and evil. But most of the youths of the population enjoyed it. He couldn't believe Sarge actually enjoyed it. If he didn't order them to listen to it, he would have tuned it to something much better. "Speak of the devil...." Heavy muttered as Sarge strode in, carrying a data-slate with him. "Listen up men. We just got new orders. trooper Carmine Baird and Dandelo are on their way to perform an inspection, along with a detachment of troopers to relieve us." A collective cheer rose up as the men realised they wouldn't be stuck on this ice ball of a hell hole for much longer. "They want to make sure all the auguries are functioning, so get to cleaning and paying respect to those damn machine-spirits." Heavy leaned back in the chair, stretching his legs out in front of him. It would be good to see Carmine again. They had been good friends back on Cairho 3, and when Carmine had been conscripted he knew he would never see his friend again. But then the regiment took heavy casualties, and they had been reinforced rapidly to bring them back up to stength. He had been called in. Though he knew he would never see home again, he would at least be able to see Carmine. he grinned, thinking of how Carmine was going to be so surprised.

Trooper Carmine Baird look over dandelo's shoulder as he expertly piloted the Arvus Lighter. He didn't ask him how he knew how to fly it, he didn't expect to get an answer. It was just another mystery of Dandelo. He turned around and looked in the crew compartment. They had crammed 9, plus he and Dandelo into the small ship. The guardsmen slept, talked or read from their data-slates. He turned back to look at Dandelo. No one, except for the commander knew much about him, and even his information was mostly guesswork. Dandelo spoke, a rare occurance. "We are nearing the listening post." Carmine squirmed, knowing full well that it hurt Dandelo to speak. The voice was crackly and wavering, but somehow incrediable musical. "All rgiht, I'll pass it on." The troopers nodded their affirmative, and set about making themselves ready. "Dandelo, I'm gonna vox them to let 'em know that we're coming. Dandelo put his hand on Carmines wrist and shook his head.

I'm gonna post some new stuff, and if you like it I'll finish it up.

"Nothing to report, as usual." Trooper Jeri Pappas spoke into the comm unit at his wrist. "Stow it, Pappas. You drew the short stick this week, so deal with it." Hard-assed sumbitch, thought Jeri. Thump. "Huh?" "Who's there?" Jeri asked, pullling his autogun and sweeping it side to side. "Nothing. Just being jumpy..." Thought Jeri. Sknitt. Jeri turned rapirdly again, and saw a shadow hide behind one of the storage crates. Turning on the light attached to his gun, he investigated. What he saw frightneed him. "Oh sh" as the blade plunged into his throat. Thump. His body hit the floor, and the figure pulled him into the shadows.

Carmine brought the brush back and forth his chainsaw bayonet, watching as the toxins in the liquid sink in. It was beautiful. The toxins had perpetually stained his blade an odd greenish color. He disesmbled his aurogun, cleaning the components. Looking up, he saw Dandelo turned around in his seat, beckoning him. Carmine slid up. "Yeah?" Dandelo pointed at the map in the data console, indicating they were close to the planet.

"Sarge! Something happened to Jeri! He hasn't reported in." Sarge walked out of the main complex, shouting after him. "Marsi, Darin! With me. Let's go and invetsigate."
They walked to the corridor that led to the landing pad. Sarge stopped. "Stay here. Get your guns at the ready." Srage pulled his chainsword loose, and held his las pistol out in front. Pressing the activation rune to open the door, he stepped forward. "Oh sh-" The pulses tore through his chest, and Marsi fell to a second volley. Darin ducked into an alcove, screaming into the comm at his wrist. "We are under attack! Repeat under attack!" Rushing back down the hallway, he was struck in the back by the shots. "Oh lord, oh lord no, no no NO!" he cried as he crawled away from the assailant. The unknown killer dragged him to his feet, and dragged the blade across his throat. Darin bleed to death from the combined wounds in his back and the knife wound in his throat.

Heavy grabbed his pistol, and screwed on it's silencer. "Get your guns idiots!" He screamed at the dumb founded garrison. Dear Throne, did he need to spell it out for them? "If you don't get your guns now, we'll all be dead before we can send out a distress signal!" And with that, there paralysis was broken. They rushed around, strapping on harnesses, holsters, jamming clips into empty guns, and everything else. He could here the screams as garrison members were cut own in the adjoining corridors. Sidling over to the far wall, hebent down, and removed the covering to one of the vent systems. "C'mon!" He could see the enemy. Of the thirty people in the control room, only five escaped the withering hail of fire. "Oh daer Throne, there's nothing about htese kinds of situations in the primer!" Whispered one of the surivors. "Shut up! They can find us if you talk too loud! Follow me, I know a way out of here." Heavy didn't know where this was coming from, he didn't know a thing about leading men, but he was aking command.

"Dandelo, ther's the landing pad." Carmine pointed out. Dandelo nodded, and steered it towards the wide platform. They could see no lights on. Strange.
