I know it sounds daft to use a £8 model to test a colour scheme on but, that's what has happened

I still need to finish the tabard and am very open to suggestions; not sure if i should just leave it black and freehand some runes onto it or use a dark blue/purple/green to make it stand out a little more.

Great gems, great wraith bone armor.

Gold and the silver cables are alittle plain though.

I think the metallic parts come through a little brighter on camera than to the naked eye. Perhaps i could give the cables a purple wash and maybe dull the gold a little too.

I did toy with the idea of putting some kind of decal on the head but i like the idea of the 'faceless killing machine' too much!

It needs more red to contrast. If it had that it would probably look very nice.

Hmm, not too sure about red. I think it would have to be a very deep red to fit in with the overall look of the model. My current fave is purple but i'll let the thread run a little longer to see if anyone can convince me otherwise...

I agree that inking/washing the cables would be a good idea.

As to the tabard, the black does look good with the rest of the mini, which is fairly neutral already. I'd definitely highlight the tabard and then, like you said, throw a big rune on there in some distinctive color. Purple goes really well with gold and might be a good choice, and Eldar overall are one of the armies that can pull off purple as a main color.

i think that cables have been done, its just a shame that this pic isnt the best quality, i would think to see it in person it would look alot better, and it allready looks great now.

Wraithguard are propably the coolest Eldar models around.

I realy like the gold/white combo and to me it will look even better if the tabard had some dark color on it (blue for example)

Better Pictures Please !

Other than that, I have to say that I am very impressed with the ivory/bone armour and the blue gems. Not really sure about the gold helmet and gun though nor the other colored gems as overall they seam to contrast too much. I think I would rather see more blue or violet.

Thanks for the comments folks! I'm going to paint three upright chevrons on the tabard, one of each will be purple, green and blue to match the gems on the armour. Never done freehand painting before, so the results should be interesting to say the least :S

My concern is that is that the gold is a bit "too" light and detracts more from the model than adds to it. This may just be the lighting and picture though. I still think that some large sections painted in deep red would give that "cool" gold something to contrast and still pull together those blue and purple gems.

EDIT: On second thought, I think that if the weapon wasn't solid gold all over than the model would be much more agreeable to the eye. As it stands, the bone of the armor and gold of the gun run together and create a bit of visual noise around the center of the model. Maybe make the main "carapace" of the gun deep red with some odd shoulder plates and knee pads red as well?

I want one! I would suggest a raw sienna wash in the cracks to make the bone look more aged.

Very nice. Wraithguard are one of my all time favorite models from GW. I do think a blue tabard would make the models pop more.

I've taken another picture, this time without the camera flash, that gives a better impression of how bright the gold bits are. Sadly it also includes my attempts at freehand which, while i am pleased with the neatness, lacks somewhat on the design front. I think i'll probably paint over it and try a bright blue rune instead. Thanks for the comments folks, i always appreciate a helping hand with these things!

The freehand is nice. I'd keep it.

All done! Pretty pleased with how the cloth has worked out; could have been a little bit more even with regards to the rune but i think it's a definite improvement on the chevrons i had before. Big kudos to all you freehanders out there, it's bloody difficult.

I like this last tabbard design. Very cool looking.

The colour scheme is great! It would look fantastic as a whole army painted up. My favourite part is the gold & silver headpiece, but for some reason it doesn't look quite right on the gun. I feel like it should be non-metallic, but perhaps that's just because 90% of wraithguard are painted with non-metallics.

I love your tabbard, it's really awesome.

I also like your design, it's clean and crisp, reminescent of Biel-Tan with the Bone + green (wich it looked like to me, at first glance, due to me having problems with colors and my eyes xD), the gold really adds to the strength of the whole model and is wonderfully supported by the non-intruding nature of the bonecolor you used for the mainbody.

The Tabbard is especially well made, since it balances out the whole design. The chevrons would've been okayish, but not ideal: Having every Droid with his own, personal rune and tabbarddesign works not only towards the purpose of braking up the rather streamline and non-eye-jumping nature of the rest of the design.
