Subject: Arbites Precinct
|
 |
Unbalanced Fanatic
|
Hello all,
I have been considering making an Arbites precinct and I need some thoughts on my ideas.
My plan is to have an MDF base with a building on it and then a sort of fenced off precinct area with garage for my Arbites vehicles.
My first idea is to use the new Aegis Defence Line as the fence surrounding the precinct. Is that a good idea or does anyone know of anything better I could use?
Secondly, I am going to use foamboard to make the building but I am worried how it will support itself. Does anyone know how I could reinforce the foam board so it would stay up?
Finnally. What sort of general design should the building be of. Gothic? Armoured? Any imput would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
The OC-D

Like the idea OCD. Depends on what you want it to be for. If you want it for a battle in a building, I'd use gothic. Any other place, normal Arbites I'd say. BTW, hows my Arbites guy coming along?

There is a White Dwarf mag with a Arbites precinct in it, but I don't remember the issue...Maybe some of the Grey Beards can recall it; for you to use as inspiration.

@Madness I have that issue, it's quite an old one and there are no good close ups of it, but I am still using it for inspiration.
@Extermikator Fine, painted but I wish I had undercoated first.

Here is a CAD model of a COD building I made for my Arbites a few years ago:
Unfortunately, I don't have any good pics of the actual building and it is only primed not painted. There is a garage on the back of the lower floor. The base is MDF and approximately 12" x 12". The steps are oversized so that models can actually be placed on them.
The thought was they could use the verandas as firing positions or to post shooter is the Judge wanted to go up to the roof and make a proclamation. The actual build of course has battle damage which ripped a couple of large holes in the back of the building. It has a plasticard 2nd floor and roof so there are plenty of firing positions.

There's a good picture in the old city fight book, similar to the outpost in star ship troopers. Large tower, Raised outer floor, Fence, Entrance ramp, Pillboxes. Supposedly it is the precinct in Vogan on the old campaign map.

@ptlangley Nice model and building. I was thinking along different lines to that but it has given me food for thought.
@citadel_security If you could find a picture that would be greatly appreciated.

you need a rhino hanger... if you want some background reading I sugges tthe first Shira calpurnia novel Crossfire, also many precincts the majority on most terrestrial worlds at elast also have landing pads for shuttles etc.

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal. |

I am going to include a small hangar/garage for the Arbites vehicles I have/want but I wasn't going to include a shuttle pad. I have been trying to find Crossfire but I can't track it down cheaply.

well in crossfire, cause she is on sucha big world the main character spends a lto of time either in rhinos or In small shuttles gogin everywhere i would suggest lookign at osm eo fht esmall shuttles from forgeworld for scale.
also there is refrences to the garages being covered in pipies and with like abilical chords and boons for the vhicles to refuel reload etc...
erm.... oh yes need lots of flood lights and if you can somthign to use as loud hailers, could use the SoB ones but in all honesty they are a lilttle ornate for most run of the mill arbites prcincts.

@extermikator Which models do you mean?
@Sgt.Roadkill I am thinking my is more of a local rather than a worldwide Arbites Precinct. I have an Arbites Land Speeder (converted) and I want a Repressor but they are expenisve. If I cannot get a repressor I will get a Rhino or Chimera.
I am going to use Searchlights from IG vehicle Frames for lights around the camp. I don't know what to use for Loud Hailers.

OCD, for the loud hailers, there's probably something on the SOB frames, as they're always shouting at people. Alcso, can you show us this Arbites thing you're building?

yeah i know what you ere saying OCD, but a lot of thje precintct Shira Calpurnia goes to are really small one sin the middle of nowhere
also i thoiught this quote out of the second arbites novel 'legacy' would help
'like all arbites architecture the tor fortresses, was designed so the mere sight of it intiminated any onlooker'
also they don't tend to be as ornate as say the urban terrain gw released a while back, the Strongpoint's they've just released for planetstrike do fit quite nicely however

I'm looking at using a mixture of the new GW plastis (more money than sense, but at least this way I'll finish it ), and I've just seen the new pre-orders and 2 of the imp shrine will do nicely. Not 100% on all the details
You could also use the FW brass etch eagles as an alternative, there a 4 large ones on one sheet and more mid sized on another. Good for detailing.

Depending on the size of the structure the foamcore should hold up fine - it's pretty sturdy stuff. If your building will be large and intact you can always make up some internal support walls. For the outer walls I suggest buttresses. That will make it look more gothic and will increase the cover footprint of the building without making it an even bigger box.

Hi again,
Sorry for the double post but I was having problems with attachments. Anyway. Attached is a plan of the Arbites precinct I plan to build. It has a large building that is scaled to be about 3 stories high, a garage that will hold either two Chimera sized tanks or a Chimera sized tank and two Land Speeders. It has a bunker guarding a gate and a fence that will be topped with GW razorwire. The buildings will be made of Foam and Foamboard.
Enjoy...
