I have never worked with grey's/Blues very much in the past and I need to know some good colors to use/techniques to get some frozen/ice cold daemons. Basically I want to get some frozen, corpse grey plague bearers w/ blue lips etc. Any advice? Help Dakka HelP!

Doing a base of regal blue and then, a highlight of enchanted blue gives a nice colour (to see example go to my gallery and see the blue orks!)

Interesting... so I'm assuming a grayish skin tone with some blue patches?

Maybe try this for the skin tones:

Fortress Gray basecoat
Asurmen Blue wash
Fortress Gray Highilight
Fortress Gray/Skull White 50%/50% highlight
Skull White Final Highlight

For the more blue parts, like the lips - maybe fingertips and toes too - replace Fortress Gray with Space Wolf Gray.

Finally use an Asuremen Blue Glaze - mix the wash with matte medium, say 1 part wash to 5 parts medium, to add just a tint of blue over all. Apply more than one layer of glaze to build it up on the parts that you want to be more blue.

Base coat with hawk turquoise, then cover with ice blue and work up to white. A glaze of ice blue and some white highlights should give you the effect you're after.

If you want to give them a 'frosty' look, apply a small patch of glue then some fine sand, before basecoating, to a few areas on the model and paint them ice blue followed by a strong white drybrushing.

Thanks guys, those ideas seem to make alot of sense.
@ gavin: I'm going to try that for the plague bearers
@ J. Black: Sounds like the way to go for some sweet Ice devil/Bloodletters!

Good luck with this, i think it could look really great if you get the effect right! More of a general tip, if you are painting an effect on something, i find it a great help to use a photo as a reference. Ice for example...

Here is the Plauge Bearer test model. I followed the previously posted direction EXCEPT I used Astronomicon grey instead of fortress grey for the highlighting process.

I really think the basing is what is going to set these apart. They look VERY dead but only nominally frozen while they are sitting on the black base. I think that by painting the base ice blue and white and adding a asurimen blue tinted (clear!) water effect over the top of it for a "sheet of Ice" for him to stand on will do the trick. a little bit of snow basing above that (very sparingly) to create a tundra effect will be the way to go. Thoughts?

Something to brighten it up eg. the sheet of ice would look great and brighten the model up a whole lot, as at the moment im not really picking up on the ice and more seeing slush but dont let that discourage you heh

A good brightening up with say a brighter base or maybe highlighting it abit more. If I were going for frozen id try and go along the crystalline look, ever so slight highlights along some edges

As people have said before, photographs are great for reference

I've seen icicles made by twisting nylon fishing wire together and glueing it with plastic model cement... They looked pretty good.

I agree that the bases are really going to help sell the frozen dead theme.

You want a realistic frozen look?

Ok i'll tell you the secret ....

Give it heavy gloss varnish , apply some super glue (it'll cause the frosting effect )

Voila
