Ok changing apartments required me to take a brief hiatus from painting, but now that I am mostly settled in I sometimes get a spare second to put a brush to some models. Lately I decided that I would get more done if I focused on a squad at a time, and painted each miniature individually. So far, this is what I have accomplished the last two nights. I'll be basing them all at once, so right now I am working on paint jobs only.

PLEASE NOTE:
These are city-fight based, as is the theme of my BA/Red Templar (I use them interchangeably) chapter. The washes are done intentionally to make them look sooty and grimy from fighting in the charred ruins. C and C are welcome, but please keep it in mind that the dirty look is intentional and I do not plan on cleaning it up.

That being said, let's take a look at what I am doing with the model.

I decided plain black straps for the jump pack was too bland, so I used a semi-highlight of a Vallejo Game Color Brown (exact name escapes me) on each link of the strap. I recently made the switch from a gold color from a generic craft paint to the GW Shining Gold, and I have to say I like the shining gold a bit better. While my craft paint looked more realistic, like real gold would, this shining gold blends better with the color temperature of the palette of colors I use. For all white items (skulls and so on) I use a GW bleached bone base drybrushed with a pure white generic craft paint, followed by a GW Badab Black wash. If the wash pools up too much, I hit it again with the white for a little clean-up. The Chainsaw is simply a craft black with GW Mithril Silver drybrushed on, and a heavy wash of GW Badab Black.

Pretty simple, and it doesn't take me too long to do. That is key, seeing as I have a whole squad left to do of them. It did take me two nights though, because my wife has gotten me addicted to watching past seasons of ER on DVD while I paint, and I get distracted easily! I aim to have this whole squad painted by the end of the week, we'll see how that goes.

I like it. Simple to do (from what it sounds) yet looks good. Can't ask for more than that

Thank you for all the kind words! I think such generosity should be returned in kind... but unfortunately all I have to offer is this photo of a completed combat squad of Assault Marines. I will be posting some more pictures of other projects I have going, but for the most up-to-date posts go over to my blog at http://foxphoenix40k.blogspot.com/. Of particular interest might be the anti-tank obstacles I made, as seen at http://foxphoenix40k.blogspot.com/2009/06/terrain-piece-tank-trap-barricades.html. Poke around a bit, I got a little bit of every aspect of the 40k hobby!
