Trigger-Happy Baal Predator Pilot




Toronto (GTA), Ontario

Today I was playing a game against orks and the player had a squadron of 3 kill kanz and a BM with a KFF and it was only within range of one killkan. He said that if it was within 6" of 1 kan then the whole unit counted as obscured. Is this correct?

No, he has to be in range of 2 kanz. Squadrons of vehicles follow BOTH sets of cover rules. If 50% of the unit is Obscured (by having 50% covered or an effect says they are obscured like the KFF) then the whole squadron gets the cover save.

That's what I said but he said that because the codex says:

Pg 34 Ork Codex " The Kustom Force Field gives all units within 6" a 5+ Cover save. Vehicles within 6" count as being obscured."
He says that because it says all units, this applies to vehicles to.

Oh I see where you are getting at. Yes if 1 kan is in 6" he will in fact get a 5+ Cover save. A lot of people forget (hell I just did there for a second) that the KFF actually now gives vehicles 2 cover saves, one of 5+ for being a unit, and one of 4+ for being obscured.

In this case, the Kanz Unit will get a 5+ Cover save as part of the KFF special ability, but cannot get the 4+ because not more than half the Squadron is Obscured/In Cover.

Of course there are those who claim that with the way cover works now you have to have 50.01% of the unit within 6" to get the cover save, but you can kick them in the nuts for being morons, because that's not how it works

Yeah, Gwar! is correct (surprise surprise)... if say 1 of the 3 kanz is within the 6" of the KFF, that ONE kan has the save. However, as less than 50% of the unit are in "cover" (from the KFF) the UNIT won't get the 4+ save until it's down to 2 or less kanz,.

True, that ONE kan gets the 4+ Cover save (because it counts as obscured), the other 2 only get a 5+ because 50% of the unit is not obscured.
