It occured to me that while I've lurked for years on dakka, I've only been active a few days, throwing my opinions around on other people's work without posting my own stuff for fair reprisal, so here goes
Back when I got my second
AoBR box set, I didn't really have much use for the dreadnought, until I won a forgeworld drill-arm on ebay - I really disliked the previews of the
GW Ironclad, and thought it would be a great siege-drill. So I dissected the plastic dread, reposed it and voila:
One of the first models in my 'rebooted' ultramarines armies.
Things I learned:
It's not easy to repose the AoBR dread this much.
Knees on a dreadnought are not that easy to figure out.
A sentinel leg makes a great dread arm to attach the dread ccw to.
A hip-mounted IG grenade launcher makes a good substitute for the assault launcher.
There would be a lot less work involved if I had got the right-handed version of the drill.
Because the forgeworld arm already has a flamer built into it, I put a melta underslung on the other arm, which is technically the wrong way around, but if my opponent complains, I just treat them as each other.
The girder gripped in the
ccw is primarily there to act as a support to strengthen the waist, though it turned out better than I thought.
To represent the extra armour I added the 'loincloth' and bulked up the front armour a bit. I also decided to cover the ridiculously-exposed cables that go into the sarcophagus. I'm not a fan of the overarmoured look, so I deliberatley didn't go too far with the extra armour. I was considering adding something like a rollcage to the top, as I think the biggest danger to a siege dread is being trapped under falling masonry, though I haven't reached a decision yet.
What do you think?
