I did not want to step all over Lancers toes but he inspired me to give a go at the dice tower thing and here is the start. Sorry for stealing this idea Lancer but it was too cool of an idea for me.

This is just the start and yes I am using some of that "FOR SALE" sign I had left over from my last build for this. I have made mine 3"x3"x12" and it seems to work pretty good. I also plan to make the courtyard for the dice to flow into out of orky barricade type stuff. Probably gonna put a few gun nest on either side of it too. Still got a lot of orkyness to put on this thing as well.

Waaagh!

Two things I love about this:

1) It's a great adaptation of an idea to an orky cause!

2) I can now clearly read the "sale" in your for-sale sign card

Looking forward to seeing more as you ork/bitz it up! Are there several ramps inside it to randomize the dice?

yup. 4 to be exact and on the second and third ones I put blades in random directions just to make sure the dice get randomized extra gooder.

I've been wondering so long about what kind of orky way I could roll dice without actually rolling them... My hands are just too small for all of those dice ^_^
I really like the idea of the the barricade for dice.

How far apart are the blades?
is it possible that the dice may fall in some wierd configuration that means they get stuck?

They seem to be ok. I have dropped more then a few hand fulls of dice down there and none have gotten stuck yet. It really did not need the blades but I cant stop the ork in me sometimes.

I am about 75% done with the orky barricades to catch the dice.

Bombs in the barricade walls. They will never see it coming.

I love it. I've always liked dice towers as a fun project, and an orky one tops the list!

p.s.- Gun turrets on a dice tower would be 100% instant awesome. Your skin must be a shade of green, I'll raise my choppa for that!

Personally I'd play that thing as difficult terrain and if the falling dice hit a model and knocked it over it would take a wound-if saved it would then take a pinning test.

You can barely see a little platform on the side that one nob fits on. Its not done yet though and I am going to put one more on the other side and there is also a platform at the top. There will be nice orky ladders to clime up to get to em.

Awesome courtyard Now I want to see the sides of the tower get roughed up a little more!

Great stuff Maybe you can make a youtube video of it in action like the original, too!

I am in the process of figuring out what to do with the ground effects on it. I am wanting to do some kind of sand thing with some larger rocks mixed in. Any suggestions on a sandy base for it or is it as simple as putting some glue down and actually just putting some sand on it....nah, it can not be that easy.

Someone smarter then me give me a clue.

Love this thing. I'm not a fan of dice towers though. They bother me because they aren't part of the game, yet they get stuck on tables. I dunno, they just bug me.

*shrug*

This thing is just tits, though. I would just use it as normal Ork terrain. The barricaded wall at the end of the tray is just awesome and stolen, I might add (soon to be, that is).
Great work, dude.

PS:
Wrexasaur needs a 12-step program for excessive use of Orkmoticons.

Yes it its that simple... get a tray big enough to hold the base of the tower in... and paint on PVA glue over a bit of it, (I use a rubber "shaper" brush for this) Sprinkle sand over the glued area, and shake about till it's covered... gather the unused sand out of the tray, and repeat.. larger rocks can be superglue/epoxy/gorillia glue 'd after.. I'd use fleckstone paint (tape everything else off first, this -really- mucks up details) if anything, in the catcher area, you don't want the dice to come to a screeching halt as soon as they come off the bottom ramp..

That's gonna leave a pour spout, and the FLGS is so far away, WHY DO I HAVE TO SUPPORT IIIIIIIT?! </Rairty>

Thanks for the tip Lancer. I will be trying this out in the next few days. Still got a bunch of ork'n up to do on the tower yet before the base gets done. I am also gonna try to put a nice pile of barbed wire around it too.

Well here is my attempt at the whole sand/rocky terrain thing. Also added a few more bits and bobs to it.

Not sure about the fella hanging on the front. He is just temporarily there to look at for a few days to see if I like it or not.

I like the sand, it looks realistic to me. If you want slightly larger grains, you can buy a little tub of "flock" from any hobby/GW store, and use that. A lot of times it comes in different colors, but it's best to prime it and paint it like the rest anyway (with say a basecoast, a wash to bring out the recesses, and a drybrush to make the tips stand out).

I love this thing I'd vote no on the hanging Tau, makes it a little more gruesome tha the rest of the fun orkiness it has going for it (the large hanging "Waagh" symbol, and bombs in the barricades... lol!).

I'm still hoping for a few more "lego" type bits on the wall facing the courtyard I'd think the orks would have blasted some more holes in that wall that would need to be patched up! The other walls look great

The jagged "teeth" at the bottom where the dice come out are a sweet addition, too!!
