The other night at my Flgs I was getting ready to play ELDAR VS ELDAR. A Jet bike army vs. my Wave of Doom. When I notice the guy was using smaller clear bases about 1.5 inches wide for his bikes. While I was using the 2.5 skimmer bases that you get with Falcon and Fire Prism and such. I ask him where and why are you using those bases. He reply back that they were GW's and that the new jet bikes come with them. Now at first I was piss at GW for doing something like this, then after that wore off. I started to investigate this claim after the match. Which I lost, because bigger bases are easier to hit with templates and to get into assault with.

I found no smaller bases for jet bikes on there web site. These bases look like the ones that you use on the old Pegues knights from WFB.

I thought you had to use the bases that came in the box? Please help this Eldar player in finding the right size base to use for his jet bikes.

all but one of my jet bikes came with the skimmer base (2.5") its just one of those things. To be honest it make little to no difference so long as you only use one type in your army.

I have jetbikes with hex bases. It's what they came with in 95.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"...

Yep, jetbikes have over the years come with 25mm hex flight bases, 30mm round flight bases, and the larger skimmer flight bases.

Really makes very little difference. The larger base takes up a little more surface area, but it also spreads out the squad's coherency.

To answer the question posed in the title of the thread; The one they came with.

Tell that to GW. Planetstrike shows an Saim Hann jetbike swarm with a mixture of base sizes in the same squad.

The only real important rule for plastic bases is "thou shalt not glue", ignore that one at your peril.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

The only real important rule is; Thou shalt indeed glue and Thou shalt use the base the model came with.

Those are the rules. Glue in case of skimmer and always use the base the model came with. It has ZERO relevans what bases the models comes supplied with now. Use the base the model came with.

Has this been made clear? Why these discussion come up is simply amazing. The rules are very clear.

Use the base the model came supplied with.

and just once more for the peanutgallery.

Use the base the model came supplied with.

as per the question of bigger and easier to hit, 1) use that 4" coherency bikes get, spread out. 2) a small bast is still going to hit about 1 or 2 regardless of size while a Large will hit 3 or 4 on avg.

Bikes don't get 4" coherency. Vehicle squadrons do.

It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. Good call... Bikes are treated as 'infantry' when it comes to coherency, right?

And I would say use whatever base it came with, like most people are saying. That's what the rule book says and I think that's the safest bet. If an opponent questions you, you can just blame GW. "I'm just using what came in the box." is a difficult argument to get around.

Thanks everyone that took the time and gave a reply back. I think that I will buy the small bases and just say that they came with them. Because its really hard to maneuver around the board with the skimmer bases. And its also harder to get into base to base with the small ones too.

I just opened a jetbike and it came with no base.

If only I can find two more jetbikes that come without bases I can field my phantom jetbike squad that can not be killed in hth since I will be fielding them with the base they came with i.e. no base.

It has been my experience that tournament organizers expect you to use the base that the model comes with now.

This is NOT RAW, but my experience, for example when I asked at the Vegas GT this is what they ruled.
