I dug up an old dreadnaught i had painted YEARS ago and in spirit of me just starting an ork army i thought of converting it into what i would imagine to happen if a band of our favorite bloodthirsty green skins got the chance to loot a space marine Dreadnaught!

I was thinking of a shoddy paint job with splashes of red paint because "RED ONES GO FASTA!" of course

If i have some extra ork models i was thinking of setting one up to look like hes halfway in it

Of course this project would be purely for the fun of it

Anyone have any tips, suggestions, or thoughts on this project? Any input is welcome!

Oh! and of course i'll take pics and upload when im done no matter how much of an average painter i am!

I think the half-in idea is good but how will you do it? I would have him as if he was pushing the sarcofagus open from the inside or make it look like he is closing it. I think that this will make a great display piece and should give you and your opponent a good chuckle. Hope you can use this and good luck .

Theres some great pictures of this kind of the thing in the gallery... check it out for some inspiration. It's definitely a cool idea, you just gotta go crazy with the gubbins and weapons. I like your splashed red paint idea too.

This is a Dreadnaught I converted into a Big Mek for my army. The pictures are from the early stages of building, unfortunately I don't have any pictures of the finished product. Basically I made it look like he ripped out the sarcophagus and climbed inside.

Duuuude that is such an awesome build. I can picture the dread hobbling along with the mek inside shouting profanities at the top of his voice, all guns firing and the claw flailing madly XD

I thoroughly enjoyed your conversion. If you don't mind, I am gonna post up my version of a Looted Deff Dread using a 'Uman Dreadnaught like you did. I believe I found your Dreadnaughts 'Ealous brother Grim grabbin 'is own dreadynaught. Again, excellent job on your conversion I look foward to seeing the final product.

"Definition: 'Love' is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope. Statement: This definition, I am told, is subject to interpretation. Obviously, love is a matter of odds. Not many meatbags could make such a shot, and fewer would derive love from it. Yet for me, love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticle, and together, achieving a singular purpose, against statistically long odds." ~ HK-47

For maximum GRIMDARK, impale the former occupant of the Dread on top of something.

Like the end of the Dreadnought CCW or something. Also The first dreadnought posted here would look much cooler as a meganob

If you're going to have them getting into the Dreadnought, maybe have a mek boy around to fix it up so that the Ork would be able to use it instead of it standing around. Or if that isn't good, maybe have the mek boy attaching some random pieces of metal to it to make it look more Orkish.

Me and some friends recently scratchbuilt some killakans using 4 armies worth of bits boxes, some of the more used parts from ork sprues you could use are :

- The stormboyz jetpack top with the grot steering, makes a really good controller and can easily be slotted/jammed in a dread/kan as an operator,
- The stormboyz Nob powerklaw, makes a pretty mean klaw with a little modelling,
- Any mechanical parts from the bikes/trukks such as exhausts, gears and engines
- Anything sharp/spikey/orcish from any sprue will nicely hide any 'uman details you might have left on the base model
- Get some Greenstuff and link as many mechanised parts as you can with wires/cables

Hope this helps, and there's a part on almost any sprue that you can use. (We used Sentinels, Marine bikers, Tau Crisis Suits and Leman Russ sponsons amongst others)

Great ideas, gonna implement some of them.
