Okay, So I have great friends who play 40K, and turned me onto it, and in addition to this gave me some of there space marine collections, thus the large points level. I have played enough to know some strengths and weaknesses of units, but I could use any help as this is my first army build, and don't want to waste money or points. (I'll tell you which units I own.) So onto the army...
..
HQ PT Value 455
Chapter Master Calgar with Armor of Antilochus

5 man assault terminator squad 1LC and 4TH+SS
Ironclad Dreadnaught with 1x heavy flamer in drop pod
Troops PT Value 810
Tactical squad 1, 10 man , Sgt Power sword, Flamer, Multi melta, Rhino
Tactical squad 2, 10 man, Sgt Power sword, Flamer, Multi melta, Rhino

10 man Scout squad, Telion

This list is 2500 points exactly. Thanks for the advice so far, added multimeltas for the redeemers giving me 5 melta weapons total (Thanks for the advice Shrike), and also the a drop pod for the ironclad. Thanks for the responses so far, I really appreciate it so keep them coming.

I like option one so you can wreak havoc behind enemy lines with dred.

I'd say it probably depends on where you drop him. It would require more strategic placement but if done intelligently you could definitely cause some problems. Drop him next to a bunch of meltas/lascannons/etc will just see you owning a pile of ironclad rubble. Drop him where he has a good chance of killing the only thing that could kill him back leaves him a much better chance of surviving. Then you can use that drop pod and the destroyed vehicle as cover to improve survivability. Now if I have a bunch of land raiders running down my throat and a dreadnought on the side causing havoc...I certainly wouldn't enjoy the feeling. Won't work every time but definitely will have some games where he just owns too.

I guess my biggest worry with this build is a lack of high strength fire power.

I don't think that tellion is worth his points. Also, that sniper squad will likely be most effective while shooting at troops, not light/medium tanks, so having a missile launcher would confuse the squads priorities. The heavy bolter is very good at killing troops.
I assume that you're going to have your librarian leading a squad of termies. Personally, terms are so strong that I don't think they'll benefit too much from having that 205 point Librarian running around with them. I think that a chaplain would do just as well and for a lot cheaper you can shove Cassius into your unit, making them much more effective on the charge.
There's no point in drop podding just 1 unit into your enemy's lines. It may pop a tank, but then it will definitely be destroyed with a minimal amount of effort.
Find room to put in more melta weapons. You're lacking in anti-tank. MEQ armies will be more than a little scared of you, but if the have lots of tanks they'll toast you imho
or I could be completely wrong... as usual :p

Thanks for the advice guys LIST UPDATED ABOVE
Shrike: I have seen telion earn his points back in smaller games, so I always take him, but I see your point (Thanks for the missile launcher and Anti-tank advice)
Okay a couple of questions.
1. How important/effective is a psychic hood? I haven't played psychic armies really so I don't know how important they are. If they aren't that important what would be a better second HQ (I don't like chaplains).
2. Do drop pods block line of sight? (If so I was thinking of dropping the dread in front of an advancing enemy, hiding behind it, then assaulting after a round of shooting).
3 would a vindicator be better than the all lascannon pred?

It can be really effective, 'cause armies that utilize psychic powers generally rely on them. However, they did get nerfed in this edition -shrugs-. I guess it depends on what role you want your second HQ unit to fill

If the drop pod model completely conceals the model, then yes, it does block LOS. However, it does make it that much more difficult for the dread to get into CC the next round ('cause he has to move around the drop pod first) so take that into account as well.
And I really like vindicators. They are really good against tanks, infantry, and they make MEQs cry. The problem is, as I'm sure you're aware of, the short range. This can be solved by hiding it behind your Land raiders, and popping smoke as soon as you think it's in danger from the big guns.

Well, If someone can convince me that the hood isn't worth it, I would be grateful.
I just don't see a counter to eldar farseers, Lash lists, and the like without one. The thing that sucks though is that the only way to make one effective/survivable is to put him in terminator armor and make him an epislotary. Thus costing you huge points to field one (same price as VULKAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Automatically Appended Next Post: Also Since I'm not using the teleport homer is terminator armor just wasted points for calgar?
Sorry forgot the edit button
