Good start, but as above your paints need to be thinner. It is a whole lot better to have to paint two coats than one thick one. The GW washes would help with shading.

Hope to see more soon.

Aye - a quick wash on that power armour will really bring out the different sections nicely. Nice work on the purity seals!

If the OP has used thick enamel paints then the washes wont have many recesses to flow into, so that may be a bit of a problem for your wash suggestion.

Use acrylics when painting plastics. Aside from not coming out all glossy, they'll also lay down thinner on the mini. They need an undercoat to sit properly, but they'll dry faster than enamels too, which means you can take pictures of your finished work sooner The key to a good looking mini is to use the right paints in the right amounts. Make sure you thin your paints a bit (which are going to be acrylic next time, right? ) and use them very sparingly - it's better to do more coats with thin paints than to do less with really thick paint. Undercoat will help it stick on in this regard.

And at that, ALWAYS make sure you undercoat. Don't have to buy Citadel primers. Any can of non-gloss ultraflat spraypaint will work fine if you're on a budget. Primers sit a lot thinner though, so if you can afford primer, go with that.

I was just thinking that! A very tasty looking bunch indeed.

I think the Land Raider looks much better because if you think about it, vehicles are actually probably quite heavily painted (as opposed to clothing or power armour, which you're trying to paint to NOT look like paint). A little water goes a long way.

The "two coats are better than one" statement is very accurate, but it takes a lot of patience. If you're working with white or yellow, it can be quite a few more than 2 coats to look nice and solid.

Best of luck and yes, bigga pictures please!

Not a bad start at all mate, as other posters have said, thinned and more coats do help, but your painting is precise and tidy and that is I feel, the hardest bit to get right, so you are definately on the right track.

I would suggest trying a few washes to add some shade to the models if you fancy trying it out. You can use Badab Black for a darker shade, just get it in the recesses and you should see a big difference, or if you want them to look a bit more war beaten some tests with Devlan Mud might produce a different yet equally as good result.

For a first 40k paintjob I must say youve done quite well. With some more practice and experimentation with shading and highlighting, you should come on quickly and before long you will be producing some fine minis.

Like the other posters said though: Some bigger pics of the Landraider would help.

Excellent! See how much more detail stands out now that the paints have been thinned out? Bet you found it easier to apply too huh? Looks a whole lot better now. Congrats, you've got some pretty good tabletop quality marines

And thanks to the Black wash, they don't look so Christmasy anymore

But... last picture... Space Marine with a Plasma Pistol and Flamer? You'll probably need to get rid of one or the other so that your opponent doesn't get confused (And so that he's actually a legal unit )

Nice touch with the snipers on the ledge, with those capes i could barely see them.
Personally, i'd be scared of taking my Warhammer outside, not because of the price or ruining the paint, just because people would be pointing and saying 'Look at that 16 year old boy playing with action figures in the street'

Heh, you know that dirt 'valley' actually suits them well for a terrain theme. You should mimic that theme when you get to building a board for them
