G'day - Looking for comments on my proposed 2100 list. I know my opponent, its IG, likely mix of 1/3rd pts meatshield and 2/3 tanks. Im comfortable that whatever I field can deal with an IG meatshield, so my army is focused on being effective against tanks.

Tactics are likely to be a rhino rush, with infiltrating Chosen melta squad, and a zippy in your face biker team with meltas!

Given what happened last game, I lost first turn, and my rhinos were taken out, then my defiler then the vindicator... its was all bad as my long range support and transports were shafted in turns one and two, leaving my slow csms to slog through template after template- I didnt even get into cc. Now, poor deployment and loosing the initiative were my problems here - that extra turn at the start would have made a significant difference ( I could have at least popped my smoke launchers!).

Learning from this - Im keen to give the opponent a target rich environment, so he cant focus in any particular order. The Termies will Deepstrike and the Zerkers will use the LR. Depending on the mission, the DP may also deepstrike (one of the reasons for all those icons!). Alternatively, it may fly behind the LR for cover before launching.

He will take Banewolves - loves the 2+ wounds (who wouldnt) which is why the bikers will rush forward well away from my chosen (so he has to pick which one to wipe out). I will lose at least one, possibly both, but the hope its its only after using up a fair chunk of shooting.

Havocs are likely to be riding in the Chosen Rhino (Or I may just give it to them, I havent decided) - aim is to get them to the middle of the table and climbing the tall building - Its a difficult terrain roll, but its also well covered. Also, if they dont roll high enough to make moving worth it, they can stay put (moving being optional)

I am nervous about the small squad size of my troops - it goes against the grain, but I think i need to move away from squad sizes of 10 just to see how they go. Each one (except the 2ksons) have a chance against tanks - so the 2ksons should be supported by the Zerkers (or the other way around).

This is a pretty long post, but I didnt want to just post the list without giving context as to how I anticipate using it. Without context, each list becomes a 'PM for objectives, Lash DP for moving your opponent, where are the oblits' - as these are great General Purpose units. I wanted to do something a little different, without sacrificing too much competitiveness.

I look forward to comments etc, and go as hard as you like!

In your squads, doing the chainsword tango

i've found small squad sizes to be pretty harsh against IG, but if they are in rhino's its not too bad, so long as they dont all get popped on the first turn (bl on that game btw).

Depending on the mission, the DP may also deepstrike (one of the reasons for all those icons!)


Icons only guide teleporting and summoned daemons, not jumppack/winged models =\ its a shame but ah well

I'm a bit dubious about a squad of Havoks climbing a building in the middle of the field dude. You want those suckers sitting back pegging shots at tanks. They don't need to sit in the absolute best position on the field... in my experience, they get shot less that way. If you have them tucked into a nice spot of cover with a good view, they will still be spitting AT shots at tanks/chimeras, which im going to assume is why they have lascannons/missle launchers. sitting in the most premium spot often makes them lovely target for leman russ etc shells, but in a decent position (remember they are space marines, plenty of decent positions for the tough little buggers to stand and fire happily), your opponent is going to chose between a bikesquad with meltas, a laspred, and the havok squad if he wants to keep his tanks in one peice. And i would probably hit that bikesquad over the havoks.

You seem to have a solid plan for what all these units should be doing and what they will try to achieve, but i'm not sure about the summoned daemons. I'd be more happy with more marines. I'd probably swap out the thousand sons too, but i like my armies fluffy so nurgle+tzeentch doesn't feel right, and against guard i'd rather have another zerker squad/plague marine squad.

Interesting points jihallah - Id completely forgotten that Icons wont help Winged DP's - thanks, I may have inadvertently cheated (which I truly hate, it sours wins once youve found out about it). Looks like he's sticking to LR shields!

I also agree with your Havocs point - I can see them climbing buildings taking fire for 3 turns, then just dissapearing without firing a shot. Sit back in cover, popping away with 48 inch range. I think Im going to take your advice, and try to pin down those BaneWolfs (short range tanks, he might leave them at base rather than allow them to be vulnerable).

I almost left the 2ksons out, but they have never failed to impress - plus I know he hates seeing them, and will waste a lot of shots trying to keep them away. I expect the banewolves will be protecting the meat sheild, and if I can draw them out to fire at these guys (who at least get a 4+ save), I can go for a nice shot at their flanks.
