Ok,in over 10 years of painting I have NEVER had the experince I've just encounterd, after priming a sqaud of Ork burna boyz (with Krylon camoflauge flat black) I noticed that the paint had a extreme thickness to it,what I'm saying is the minis themselves were obscured, much loss of detail.
Now I have had this happen on occasion,I just let the minis dry, soak them in nail polish remover, remove the paint and start again, however this time the primer turned to a slick slimey black goo wich has now coated the minis in most places,it's a real mess.
I've let them dry again, and they look horrid,so I'm asking my fellow dakkites..what now?
I'm aprehensive to use nail polish remover again as I don't want to make matters worse, any suggestions? any one deal with this situation before?any one got a beer?
Thanks in advance for any help,I really need it.

Hmmm...try giving them a bath in Simple Green overnight, then brush them with a toothbrush, followed by a nice rinse of warm water. That should get most of the residue off, and shouldn't cause any loss of detail.

Sorry this happens, I know how it feels to be cursed by black primer, I once finished a squad of Plague Marines, went to varnish them, and accidently grabbed the black primer...I think you know what happened next...I don't know what genius at GW thought it would be a good idea to make the Varnish and the Black Spray Paint have the same color cap but I would like to see him flogged.

I have never had that problem before, but i dont think that putting them in nail polish would hurt them anymore, unless it damages the plastic. Can you post some pictures.

Maybe if you got some extra plastic laying around you could mess that up with the spray and then put that in the nail polish remover and see what happens. Whatever you do, best of luck

Can you post some pictures? Just for my curiosity.

I wish I could post some pictures so you guys could see what a mess I'm looking at,however ATM I don't have a camera handy.
The nail polish remover didn't damage the plastic, never has,it's just that for reasons I'm not able to figure out it's turned my primer to tar, wich it's never done before.
I've never used simple green for paint removale, but I belive I'll give it a try,can it be purchased at walmart or is it more of a hardware store item?
BTW,thank you all for your advice,I'll let you all know how this turns out.

You can buy Simple Green anywhere, bought some myself from Wal Mart last week.

Did the primer have filler? Or did you use it too close? Either of those could have caused your problem.

As for solving it, never use nail-polish remover on plastics. You may get lucky one time, but they do dissolve plastic.

What could be happening is the plastic actually dissolving underneath the primer, causing it to have its tar-like consistancy. It's happened to some bases of mine before when I stripped some models with brake fluid(which was fine for me, since it was an excuse to go out and get some nice display bases ).

No filler, and I was aprox. a foot and a half away, although it was a bit windy outside, however I've used this particular primer many times before with no negative results,so I'm a bit at a loss as to why I had this problem this time.
You may be correct about the nail polish remover reacting with the plastic, again,I've never had that happen before, but I assume it's possiable
For the time I've let the minis sit, they are dry to the touch, not sticky or slick, and seem to have no damage to them other then looking as though they are about to be tared and featherd.
I'll try using simple green later today, and with some luck my burnaz will live to fight another day.

You may have got a bad can of spray. Try a different can.

I usually hold about a foot away, so you should be fine. Must have been a bad can. I'm assuming the weather was moderate(but then again, I've primed in -40*C with little issue).

You may be correct about the nail polish remover reacting with the plastic, again,I've never had that happen before, but I assume it's possiable

In the case of the nail polish remover reacting with the plastic bases, the paint was completely in-tact with the bases, as well as everything else(even the flocking and glue!).

I'll try using simple green later today, and with some luck my burnaz will live to fight another day.

You could pretend that they were Burnas that got a little too close to their own flames.

IMO, its not worth the headaches from plastic. Cast off and redo, is my recommendation.
