Just curious if anyone has looked at the math on this one or has any practical knowledge if Mark of the Wulfen (d6+1 Rending) is better than a Power Weapon on Grey Hunters. I am leaning towards the former, since it would average about ~2 more attacks than normal on the charge, which means a pretty decent chance at a rend, though not a guarantee. Whereas, the Power Weapon will ignore armor saves for all of its attacks.

Any opinions on this matter?

put up all of the numbers, not all of us have the codex.

Numbers? They cost the same, which is just as much as a Power Weapon costs for any basic Tactical Squad. Mark of the Wulfen replaces their attacks with d6+1, which have rending. Power Weapon is the same. Grey Hunters get 1 base attack, and +1 for assaulting, and +1 for having two close combat weapons, so at most 3 attacks on the charge.

Hope that helps with the comparison and number crunching.

Power weapon and MOTW are the same points value. With a power weapon the hunter should be getting 2 attacks in regular cc.

EDIT: *nods to above poster* Well played, sir.

So it is 4.5 attacks on average with rending (2.25 hits, 1 wound which will rend 1/3 of the time (about .3 wounds)) vs 3 attacks with PW (1.5 hits w/ .75 wounds) against MEQs.

Unless you roll well for your # of attacks the PW is better. This also assumes equal WS etc.

I believe the MOTW still gets +1 on the charge, though PW still seems to be a solid choice

Yeah, unless you plan on facing a lot of MCs or Wraithlords I would go with the PWs

Writing up a new list today and I feel like an idiot.

I forgot to mention that one GH in the pack can take either PF or PW, and then an additional GH can take MOTW.

I was so happy thinking I could take a PF and a PW over a PF and MOTW. Ah well, worse things have happened
