Rush 'n Crush, Rogue Trader RPG, and a Sea of Blood interview all in one show? Yep!

First up the D6G team tackles the 'Speed Racer meets Formula D' board game Rush 'n Crush from Rackham and AEG to give you a detailed review from the machine guns to the mine layers and all the racing goodness in between.

Later the guys get into a deep review of the new Rogue Trader book from Fantasy Flight Games. So what is so inovative about this new RPG anyway?

And be sure not to miss When Wives Attack this epsiode as Nicole talks to Sally Karkula from Fantasy Flight Games. Sally is one of the folks working on the highly anticipated Descent: Sea of Blood expansion due out later this year.

All that and our usual 'not too horrible' humor, with features such as:

- The Score
- The Hollywood Minute
- Rapid Fire
- What's in the News
- & More

Awesome show. I just finished listening to it on my five and a half hour plane ride from NY to LA. You could tell it was a frustrating one for Russ (patience of a saint). I'm loving rogue trader. I got my preorder yesterday. I was reading it all last night. I think it's going to consume this afternoon as well. There is just so much to drool over in this book. The critique about the organization of the character creation section is fair. I had a similar problems last night, when I was test generating characters.

A fine show gentlemen.

Russ, shame about you losing all that money.

Oh and a big thank you - a friend of mine went 50/50 with me on Chaos In The Old World and everyone loves it. A very good purchase.

I know, that was hilarious.

Another good show, fellas. I enjoyed getting a look into so many games. I'm such a gaming magpie that I want to play many more games that I'll ever get to, so it's great to feel like I get an inside glimpse of games I won't necessarily get to play. I also am a big fan of the D6G review process - it's great to go into my first time on a board game with a framework of the rules in my head. I recently played my first game of space hulk, and was pretty much good to go just from the last episode.

Craig, I appreciated your Didya Ever Notice segment this time very much, having had roleplaying exist as an integral part of my core circle of friends for many years. Over that time, we've developed splits and rifts in interests similar to those you described. However I've found that sometimes you can't change the group you're playing with, and then I think it's just crucial to communicate at the outset the nature of the game that the DM is going for.

Anyhow, thanks again.

Thanks for the kind words gents.

And Nathonicus, you are absolutely correct, I did leave out that possible coping mechanism. With good communication I've seen just these rifts minimized to the point that the group can still enjoy each others' company and the games they play.

I was remiss, and pessimistic.

Which is why, in a nutshell, I'm the Grumpy Gamer.

It's in the job description.

Far-stretching, endless Time
Brings forth all hidden things,
And buries that which once did shine.
The firm resolve falters, the sacred oath is shattered;
And let none say, "It cannot happen here".

Hi guys, fantastic show! Just finished listening to the review of Rogue Trader.
I pre ordered this about a week ago and guess what turned up today?
This book is every bit as beautiful as you said.
I only really GM, so I can't wait to get into some meaty storylines, ESPECIALLY with the player input you were talking about.

Keep up the great work!

Does anyone remember what episode the wives interviewed that lady from Fantasy Flight Games?

That sounds like a great show Owen. Now I just must convince Nicole that we need to fly to Wales in a couple of weeks to catch a show.

Owen, I cry great big crocodile tears when I don't have the pleasure of hearing your dulcet Welsh tones. I will forgive you because you sent me cool dice and "stuff". Also, there would be little to no convincing that would need to be done to get me on a plane to Wales, there would, however, need to be extra dollars that I think are being spent on Descent: Sea of Blood and other gamer goodies.

Owen, I was hoping that you could do a Halloween-Themed Words from Wales for October. There is a story I read once in a collection of horror tales which was about, I kid you not, a man becoming obsessed with collecting and painting miniatures to the point that it drives his wife mad.

I can't for the life of me remember the name of this story, but I'm desperately trying to find it. I was going to ask for a dramatic, Welsh reading! (Sorry, I know that's redundant.)

A great podcast gents.

I was lucky enough to go out at lunch today to my FLGS and purchase a copy of Rogue Trader. Hope to spend the weekend devouring it.

I also bought Descent last week.

Now I need to find some gamers that like both games.

Thanks again guys for a great podcast.

John

BTW, Russ, I am the guy that introduced himself to you during your game of Descent. (pay no attention to the Canadian flag in the post, my company Internet goes thru our Montreal office.)

Hi John!! Terribly sorry I forgot your name during the show. I'm sure you'll have no problem finding some folks to play those games. And we'll be looking for some Descent backup players when Sea of Blood hits so let me know if you can make it to the Castle from time to time.

So is the rerelease of the Uncharted Seas book worth the cash, or stick with the various downloads?

I picked one up, and I like the new layout and how it looks. Although you could certainly stick with the old one and downloads.

Interesting news:

Fantasy Flight Games is making a new large scale fantasy army board game:

Runewars

In site description:
"Runewars is an epic board game of conquest, adventure, and fantasy empires for two to four players. Designed by Corey Konieczka, Runewars pits players against each other in a strategic game of battles and area control, where they must gather resources, raise armies, and lay siege to heavily fortified cities.

Runewars takes place in the same popular fantasy universe as the best-selling board games Runebound and Descent: Journeys in the Dark, and dozens of fan-favorite heroes and monsters play their part. The wars for the dragon runes are beginning, and only one faction will emerge victorious. What would you do to claim the ultimate power?"

Just want to say that I enjoyed all your episdoes especially the ones since Gencon. I bought Arcane Legions and really enjoyed the innovative mechanics of this new game.

I was wondering since Craig plays Romans, is the Sherpa playing Hun? I was just in an Arcane Legions tournament today and the Hun players placed first and second. Shooting seems to be extremely effective in this game. The Arcane Legions forum hosted by Wells Expeditions has a new topic discussing how to, perhaps, reduce the effects of shooting.

Hope you guys do a segment on Arcane Legions in the future.

Howdy Bob,

Yes, Jeremy does play Han, and yes shooting is nasty in the game. We're constantly working on ways to get around his sneaky tricks.

If you've only been listening since GenCon then you may have missed our "Arcane Legions" detailed review episode:

http://www.thed6generation.com/index.php?post_id=511307

We reviewed the game right after the demo kits came out.

Although we should revisit the game at some point and talk about the online unit creator. That definitly adds a lot of depth to the game.

I played a demo of Arcane Legions at Spiel yesterday! Sadly no princesses though
Couldn't wait to try this since I heard the review on the D6G.
Got a starter and a Han and Roman cavalary box right away.

This on-line unit creator sounds very much like a innovative game mechanic
I got to check that out a.s.a.p.. Fiirst up some practice games to get in to the flow of the game.

Can't wait to hear more about Arcane Legions on the show.

Hey Russ, I guess I should have said that I did listen to Ep 37(?) regarding your review of Arcane Legion before. Prior to that episode I've never even heard of the game. I thoroughly enjoyed your review and bought into the game. I only purchased 1 starter and a cavalry set.

I was in a small local tourney recently and played Han. There were 2 Han players, 2 Roman players and 1 Egyptian player. The Han players ended up first and second. Wells Expedition now has a post of their forum to solicitate player response to tone down the effects of range attacks. http://arcanelegions.com/forums/1/topics/640?comments=82 I agree partially that range attacks are quite dominate but if they plan to nerf that then they must add more resilient units to the Han list.

Anyways, your podcast is the best out there !! Thumbs UP !! BTW, I'm the Space Shuttle guy on your facebook group...
