I'm not a lawyer so I don't want to make pronouncements.

Both the USA and UK copyright laws adhere to the Berne Convention.

The UK also follows the EU principle of "moral rights", which the US doesn't.

US copyright goes into the tort system, which can be highly unpredictable. Generally if you are engaging in one of the following:

A: not making money and not causing the company to lose potential money
B: parody
C: engaging in analysis, reporting, or discussion

you're probably safe. Both can get pretty nebulous though, and volume compounds all sins.
