Hey guys/gals!

I've been scanning this site for many months now between playing with jets at work... I don't claim to be the best painter in the world (lord knows that's true) but I just thought I'd contribute something to this great forum/site.

I'll pop up some pics of the Necron Monolith that I'm currently working on (okay... technically, dragging my heals on) and the Tyranid Carnifex I finished up a little while ago.

Hope everyone's lives are going well!

Sincerely,
Andrew "Shampoo" Craig

The carnifex looks good, and I am really liking that monolith. Like to see what it looks like when it is done.

I like the Monolith. It looks very old.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

I wanted to go with an old, worn, broken look for the monolith... after all, regenerating metal or not, it's been burried for millions of years.

The only problem I'm having is finding a good way to mix a rust coloured paint and how to apply it on the spots that look "bubbled" up... any hints?

Welcome to Dakka,

I'm liking the Monolith it gives the Necrons that ancient look that many people seem to miss, what are your colour schemes for your Necron troops?

it was actually extremely easy... before base painting the piece, i applied regular wood glue where ever i thought there would be rust using an old paintbrush then sprinkled sand from the dirt track somewhere else here on the base.

I'm sure you could substitute sand for any fine grain basing material.

Now I just need to find out the right colours to mix to put the rust on it.

Got the top of the monolith put on late last night (yeah... had to "work" today then play hockey like every good Canadian... it cuts into my geek time).

Now on to painting the guns... then maybe the rust this weekend as well. Too bad I have a rugby game to play tomorrow followed by excessive drinking...

thanks..

I have been trying to come up with a neat look for my monolith and just don't like the big open geometric look fo it, so much so I am attempting to strip it.

Your awesome monolith has given me some ideas..

I like the monolith did you sponge paint the gray sides? They look like the texture you get from sponges.

Actually, both the green and silver were done with drybrushing.

The entire model was based with chaos black then the green parts were given a wet/dry brushing of Dark Angels Green. It's wet enough to give the hint of green but still have a really dark look from the black. Then drybrush (very dry) camo green to highlighted areas and patches to create the texture. Highlight corners, etc with bleached bone (I prefer drybrushing the highlights... more of a subtle fade versus just painting the highlights).

The silver areas were done with that exact technique using bolt gun grey over the black and highlighting up to the mithril silver.

yeah i tossed a tiny amount of that sand/glue mix etc on a couple of destroyers and it looks just as good - I'll post pics. Adds a real nice aged look.

thanks for the tips and great modellin ideas

Really? You're going to come up to the Canadian north from a paradice like Australia?? Don't be silly! I'll come to you... I'll just wait until you're old enough to put a beer in my hand.
