Greetings all!

I haven't seen any posts on this so far, so I thought I'd attach the PDF that's been released with the UK Doubles Tournament environment rules.

Anybody planning on going? I know I will be - although I had planned to ally my Necrons with a friend's Tyranids... looks like that's scuppered!

Aye me and a mate got tickets, due to our armies at the mo, we're being a bit boring and going Ork and Ork.

Although we do have seperate Klans so it won't seem to similar on the day, well hopefully.

Holy gak... it's the "don't play xenos cuz everyone hates you" tournament.

Also, the requirement to purchase one of each FOC slot before you purchase a second in a single slot... dumb. At 750 points, that's going to simply screw some armies that don't have competitive slots, or whose units are too expensive. Looks like chaos only gets to bring one of anything, because who wants to waste points on any of their crap FA.

And, as we should know, one of everything is a terrible way to write an army list.

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

Aye, but you combine the two armies as if one for that tally, and troops can ignore the restriction.

I think ours if fielded as a single army list works out as 2 HQ, 6 Troops, 2 Heavy, 2 Elite and 1 fast.

It wasn't too bad, although I suppose I could see it being an issue for some combinations based on their Troops options.

The rules for that tournament suck. Xenos get screwed on leadership if they ally with other xenos. The imperium is a big happy family with tons of options. What a dumb idea, forcing fluff down people's throats. Also screws over counts as armies. Blech. It will be all marines and guard in that tournament. Necron phaseout will make the worst army in 40k twice as bad in this tournament.

I agree 1002390423% jsullivanlaw.

The funny thing is that I recently ran a double's tournament, and didn't even think of adding any of these silly restrictions. The only thing that I made clear was that the special rules of one army did not affect the other.

It was super smooth, and everyone had a good time.

They think they're being "fluffy" with that allies matrix.

I think they're going to be seeing almost all imperial-on-imperial, with maybe an occasional CSM+Daemons matchup... and how fluffy is that?

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

Wellll... think what you will, but it's going to be a great weekend down at Games Workshop HQ. I'll be playing some games 'where it all began', meeting new people, playing on professional boards and then afterwards... supping some pints at Bugman's Bar.

I don't care even a bit if the rules are a little skewed!

The funny thing is, it's got un-fluffy loopholes! Space Marines and Eldar can't work together as Distrusted Allies? So let's just forget all the small mini-stories and fluffy bits about Space Marines making temp alliances with the Space Faries... Chaos Daemons and CSM making alliances with Guard? The only way that makes sense is with counts-as Renegades - but oh wait! Counts-as isn't allowed!

Crappy rules set up. Definately favors "Good" guys over "Bad" guys.

Typical 'Appeal to the children' mentality.

Warrior Coven by C.S. Goto is an entire book about Death Watch working with Eldar.

This is the only book by Goto that i really liked. It did portray Lelith as a chaos worshipper though but i enjoyed it anyway. In the doubles tournies that i've been part of we actually removed necrons phase out rule and it really didn't overpower them at all. You have to make allowances for GW's incompetence.

As Leromides said, were coming down. Hopefully we'll meet on the field of battle and all that jazz... Or Dakka-ites will clean house with the rest of the people there.

Well this is strange; I've downloaded the rules from the official site (and included them in the first post of this thread) and it mentions two forces of 750pts combining to make a 1500pt army... but in White Dwarf this month there's an advert for the tournament being a 500pt per person event.

Yeah, when Leromides and i were first looking at the advert on the site it was 500pts, but then when we got the rules pack it was 750pt. I reckon go with what it says on the ticket(ticket pah!! its bigger than the blood angels codex!!). I haven't got it to hand just now, but i'll have a look later. If it is 500 im going to have to do some drastic rethinking.

Pretty certain its 750pts this year.

If you look at the ad in White Dwarf its advertising the 2009 event, think they used the same ad, or made a mess up.

Although we originally had 500pts, we saw the early online release on the 2010 pack rules and then upgraded to 750. So we have an army ready eitherway.

Sadly I can't check the pack that arrived with the tickets as its round my mates place.

Looking forward to a good few games, win or lose, probably more of the latter.

My tickets arrived today and are an exact match to the PDF in the original post. I guess it's 750pts then!

Aye, I'm quite happy with that tbh, will make things more interesting with standard armies on the table.

Plus I liked where my force went when I added the extra 250pts.

Just really need to start painting and soon, although until I finish the conversions I can't get going.

Gah!! I know that. I'm still waiting for some parts to arrive. On the plus side, I've got a work training doohicky in london at the start of november. Thats 5 nights stuck in a hotel room blitzing through at least 2 squads i hope. Might try to go to the Oxford Street GW to have a little play test while im down there.

Hey guys, heres a question for you vet tourney players.

In the rules it says you need a tray to move your minis from table to table. Got a great idea on how to make a themed tray thing, but that aside. What do you do with model cases/jackets etc at these events? Like during the games? Lug them about too? or are there lockers/designated area?

Usually just carry them and tuck them under the table. It's easier if you're using something like Sabol army transport with a shoulder strap. If I'm at a smaller venue I might bring the case/s back out to the car or tuck them in a corner somewhere that's within line of sight (just to be on the safe side).

Another disappointment care of GW organisers. The severe limitations on race mix, teamed with strict FO building, mean that you really need Guard/Marines/Tau for those FA slots and reasonable alliance options.

*keeps fingers crossed for a more lax and therefore fun doubles tourny in the UK*

Yep. Mannahnin is dead on. Those sweet-looking Fallen, carried efficiently from table to table...do you still run that army?

Well, this tournament is over and done with now - my friend and I came a respectable 12th with 4 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw. Our double-Tyranids did remarkably well, even squeaking out wins against Space Wolves, which I didn't expect at all.

We dropped a few clangers in our army selection too (see attached), not realising we could've chosen a single spore mine as our fast attack choice (8pts) and instead wasting 50pts on a single Ravener who, all tournament, killed one marine... literally. Also, we should've given Feeder Tendrils to our Genestealers instead of Scything Talons and saved a boat load of points... but you live and learn! We were quite satisfied with 12th place after only three or four months back in the hobby after a ten year hiatus!

What a great event though, it was my first time at Games Workshop HQ - the place was stunning!

Congrats!!

We placed 71st out of 103. Not to bad for our first ever tournament I reckon, well we were happy with it. I agree, Bugmans and warhammer world was ace. Nice to finally make the pilgrimage down, even if the roads were "fun". I felt a bit let down by the warhammer world store. I thought there would be more on the racks, e.g. specialist games/direct only stuff. So you could browse. But there was very little blisters in general.
