Great stuff, is the Necron Warrior half way through the portal at the front? If so, very cool.

Yup. I cut the necron in half. His other half is glued on the inside of the portal. It made for a better shadow than just the front half on the front of the portal.

holy....crap. That looks down right awesome. The way the light shines out just gives it that necron feel to it. I love the way the necron warrior is halfway walking out, as you said you put the other half on the other side, that makes for a great effect.

1.) Very nice work. I like it a lot. I'm absolutely going to steal that idea when and if I do my monolith.

2.) If you're willing to invest a little more into it... and I bet you are... I feel it can be improved. I was working a project a few years back that called for some slowly pulsing lights. I found them here for $12 - http://www.cowlacious.com/LightProd.htm - assuming you left open a hatch or similar for swapping out the batteries, popping this in would be a cinch. Note that there is a little screw thingie on the kit you can twist to change the speed of the pulse, from blinking to very slow.

3.) If you go with the pulse, post it on youtube!

I particularly love the way you've used the back-half of the necron to provide a natural shadow. Not many would have come up with such a simplistic but effective approach

That's awesome! Although I was hoping to see one set on fire...god knowns I've wanted to set them on fire during games .

Very nice. I bought some LED's to do the same to mine, just got to get around to putting it all together.

Couple of quick questions for you tho, have you mounted the LED for the crystal in the crystal itself or is it below and shining up? Secondly if you're using Ultra Bright LED's how are you finding the heat? I taped my circuit up with some electricians tape and found that it was getting quite warm.

I actually drilled a hole in the bottom of the crystal and put an LED mount in it. The LED is sitting just at the bottom of it. Heres some pics to help. As for the heat there is none. Dunno if its the way i wired it or what but i did use some heavy guaged wire so maybe that allows the electricity to run through easier producing less heat.

Ah ok, that looks like quite a neat solution. I had originally thought of a couple of pin holes for the LED legs through the side of the crystal and running the wire down the mouting frame, but your solution might allow for a better distribution of light.

I was originally going to do the 2 holes in the bottom too. But you could see the poles and led floating in the crystal. Doing it this way all that is seen is the light source.

Actually working on that with really small LEDs takes longer though because you have to hollow out alot more compared to the monolith which is already hollow lol.
