Basically I love the Space Wolves and I love their fluff! I'll probably be getting around to designing lists for all the Wolf Lords but that's a whole other story...

This list is based around the Wolf Lord Harald Deathwolf, and is suitably fluff, however I'm wondering how competitive it is...

anyways the list:

HQ - Canis Wolfborn - 185pts

Troops - 10x Grey Hunters, MotW, Drop Pod, 2x Melta - 210pts

Troops - 10x Grey Hunters, MotW, Drop Pod, 2x Melta - 210pts

Troops - 10x Grey Hunters, MotW, Drop Pod, 2x Melta - 210pts

Troops - 12x Fenrisian Wolves - 96pts

Troops - 12x Fenrisian Wolves - 96pts

Fast Attack - 4x Thunderwolf Cavalry - 1 Powerfist, 4x Meltabombs - 245pts

Fast Attack - 4x Thunderwolf Cavalry - 1 Powerfist, 4x Meltabombs - 245pts

Total - 1497pts

The Fenrisian Wolves run ahead screening Canis and the Thunderwolves, whilst the Grey Hunters drop in and start attacking anything that needs attacking. Simple really. I'll admit the list isnt hugely thought through, nor are the tactics. But it is atleast a good start I think...

As a final note I dont plan to collect this so money and whatnot isnt an issue. C+C welcome...

Regards, Dave.

well canis is pretty bad as a charicter. all the games i have seen him in and ran him in he dies. his lack of an invul save is his down fall. i run a lord with a storm shield and a frost blade with saga of the warrior born. He tends to kill what ever is thrown at him. i would drop one of the greyhunters squads and put storm shields on the thunderwolves. infact you can probly up them to 5 man squads then. then i would put your last 2 grey hunter squads in rhinos. you dont wont that last pod to not come in when you need it too.

ofcourse if your not even gonna build it it dosnt really matter then lol

True, very true. Problem with Canis is that he's needed to make the Fen. Wolves troops and therefore allow both Thunderwolf packs. I guess I could drop Canis for a lord and combine the packs into one...

I am very unsure about the idea of dropping a Grey Hunter Pack. 2 scoring units = I was also unsure about that last pod but it does enable the other 2 to arrive turn 1 and it can contest objectives late game...

yes, I know, doesnt mean you can't think about it though, although thinking's not my favourite thing...

Re-math you GH squads. They cost 205 each. Other than that, the list is quite simple and to the point. Lacks some ranged punch to me. I personally prefer 3 man TWC squads, no MB's, and 13 wolf wolf squads, for the maximum casualties allowed before forcing a leadership check. Other than that, it's simplicity might be its biggest asset. I would keep the pods, because i love delivering things on the enemies door step turn one. Forces them to shoot at a whole new threat while your TWC/wolves are charging across the board. Just my thoughts, however.

lol thanks. The only problem with the 2 pods is there full of grey hunters. if they drop in front early they tend to die rather quickly. With them being the only thing that can hold objectives thats a little rough. i guess you could pod onto the objective and turtle up, but even they cant handle a charge from say templar terminators or even a big squad of khorn loonies lol. i run a pretty similar list actually.

i have a lord on thunderwolf, with 4 thunderwolves with storm shields and one has thunderhammer.
2 greyhunter squads, wolf guard with powerfist and combi melta and a melta gun and power weapon in the squad. In a rhino with extra armor.
1 grey hunter squad with wolf guard with powerfist and comi melta and melta gun. In a raizorback with laz cannon and extra armor.
5 wolf guard terminators with 5 storm shields, 4 wolf claws, and a chainfist led by a wolf priest. In a land raider redeemer with extra armor and multi melta. im thinking about dropping them and picking up another squad of thunderwolves lol

i have a 2250 toruney saterday and im just adding in 2 vendicators with siege shields. have to let ya know how they do lol

what are you going to use for thunderwolves? my girlfriend found me some toy wolves but ther bigger then canus lol i might get the new giant wolves i saw floating around maxmini tho.

My tweaks
-Keep Canins
Grey Hunters
-Drop one Grey Hunter Pack
- [Optional] Split each Grey Hunter Pack in two and make sure each has Wolf Standard and MotW
Drop the Pods for Rhinos or Pod them in only 6” from your opponents line, this should only give you one turn that they are in the open until the Cavalry Show up.
Fenrisian Wolves
-Max out the Wolf Packs
Thunderwolf Cavalry
-Take one of the Thunderwolves to 5 and toss in a few Storm Shields, this is Canis’s Bodyguard
-Take Thunderhammers instead of Power Fist they are worth the few points. You can save a few point by not taking the Melta-bombs for the guy with the Thunderhammer.

Well thanks for the ideas guys, a lot of good input coming my way...

well how about this, after trying to factor in your input:

HQ - Canis Wolfborn - 185pts

Troops - 10x Grey Hunters, MotW, Wolf Standard, Rhino, 2x Melta - 215pts

Troops - 10x Grey Hunters, MotW, Wolf Standard, Rhino, 2x Melta - 215pts

Troops - 15x Fenrisian Wolves - 120pts

Fast Attack - 3x Thunderwolf Cavalry - 1 Thunder Hammer, 2x Storm Shield - 240pts

Fast Attack - 4x Thunderwolf Cavalry - 1 Thunder Hammer, 1 Storm Shield - 260pts

Fast Attack - 4x Thunderwolf Cavalry - 1 Thunder Hammer, 1 Storm Shield - 260pts

Total - 1495pts

Personally I'm not sure about this, however, taking most advice I had added Storm Shields and Thunderhammers where I can to the Thunder Wolves, I have increased the size of the Fenrisian Wolf Squad and I have dropped a Grey Hunter Squad.

However to achieve this I have had to completely remove a Fenrisian Wolf Pack and a GH Pack (I'm really unsure about 2 scoring units myself...), the 3 man squad can run with Canis, the storm shields soaking up wounds. All Thunderwolf squads should now be a serious threat, but MAYBE with the lack of other targets, more likely to get shot...

So what do you say, a step in the right or wrong direction? (I'm leaning towards wrong myself, but then again the other one was my brain-child )

Thanks for the input, Dave.

Well you even commented that I'm not going to collect this force, however in my own Space Wolf force which will eventually include Thunderwolves, I will use the maxmini ones, as in this thread link:

I suggest finding a few points to allow your tcav units to obtain 1 mb each. Helps with wound allocation.

    Try this:

    Canis
    2x4man tcav squad w/th/ss/mb/one naked
    1x3man tcav squad w/th/ss/mb

    2x10 gh squad w/2xmelta/mow/rhino

    2x10 fenrisian wolves

    1500pts even.
