well yesterday i was approached by one of the managers of my FLGS who has gotten his black box of the new tyranids including the trygon and raveners...
so he asked me to paint up the raveners to put in one of the display cases for a few weeks, and in exchange hes gunna give em to me for pretty cheap once its time for something new in the case...

so since not many people have had a chance to assemble of paint the new models (let alone see apart from the pics on GW), i figured id make a blog to show my progress doing them...
seeing as i have til saturday to get these done, they wont be my best pieces of work, just painted to fit in with the rest of my army, and will hopefully be done by friday.

Ive just had the fun of sticking a unit of metal ravs back together that ive had for ages

got some work done on the bodies
all basecoated, waiting for wash and details

I want to know how I am supposed to combine these to make an Alpha Warrior. I want an HQ option that isn't the same old tired tyrant that everybody has! They took my broodlord out of that slot, so I have to find something to replace it.

the farther along i get with these guys, the more impressed i am with these models...
not sure theyre worth the cost the kit will be yet, but im loving how big they are compared to how i thought theyd be...

Looking at the raveners has me scratching my head about an Alpha warrior... what piece from this kit would replace a piece from the warrior kit? Surely the body isn't it, maybe the head? I could make one by snipping the claws off a set of talons. It that's all there is to it, that would be rad. Thanks for giving us pics of these, krusty! Can't wait to see them done.

I think the Morlock, or whatever the Trygon alternative is, can be upgraded to a HQ choice as well

Those Rav's are looking excellent, no wonder he asked you to paint them; lovely models as well, I think I'll be hard pushed to resist buying a box

Interesting color scheme. I've seen them up close, and they're noticeably larger than the metal ones.

Really nice models, can't wait until these are available. The colour scheme you've picked is a nice change from the usual, and looks great.

@FoxPhoenix135: For Alpha warriors, I'm likely going to use a Warrior with the large Scything Talons (the ones on the same sprue as the Venom Cannon in the box), and probably add to the body with more pronounced Carapace. Once the new Nids are here, I'll see if there's any other ways of representing it before I settle on that.

still not sold on $15 a piece, but i do love these models
just wish i had some more time to spend on them...

Also, you should Get something like a paintstation for your painting I feel sorry for your laptop beïng in paintcamo

I think they're very well done. The red trim on the heads is a very Rogue Trader touch. So, how long until the rest of the army is ready to crush the endoskeletonous inhabitants of this doomed Galaxy?

I would love to see more extreme shading and highlighting.
Specially since these are going to be put on display.

Dunno if it's the lighting or not be they look kind of half-done

@warpcrafter the rest of the army is already done...
got about 3000 points done! (atleast in the current book, probably will come out to less in the new one)

@muller the lighting definitely makes the purple look very flat compared to how it really it is, but i might go put more detail on the claws and such if i can find some time to do it today
