Subject: Combined Inquisitorial Codex. Good Idea?

So there's been a lot of rumours and naysaying about a supposed Combined Inquisitorial dex.
Personally, I'd love to see the forces of the Inquisition grouped together like that. Grey Knights, SoB and finally giving Xenos Hunters a shot at the action sounds very good. I like the idea of a combined dex simply becuase it would give players a lot more options than a 'pure' SoB force or a 'pure' GK force.
Of course, I think that the option of running a pure strain of either of these armies should still be viable, but I always like to keep the choices there. With a combined dex, you can utilise the strengths of each force properly and mesh them together. If you wish.
Furthermore, a single Inquisitorial Dex would be updated more often. And they would be easier to manage and balance against other codexes. If we had a split dex for GK, Deathwatch, SoB AND Inquisitors then you would have to wait ages for ALL of them to be fairly looked at.
Also, I think it fits in well with the fluff.
What are your thoughts on it?

Well, I see no reason why all three ordos of the Inquisition cannot be shared under one roof (codex), they all share the same goal, though they specialise in different areas. As for their military wings, both the Grey Knights and Sisters of Battle have far too strong a tie to the Inquisition to be casually disregarded.

It should be written like the old chaos codex with Daemonhunter's in their own branch and the other's to their own.
I mean how often is it Sister's and Grey Knight's team up in battle?

GK specialise in Deamons, Sisters specilise in rooting out cultists. Both are specilised but together they are more than capable of tackling the forces of Chaos.

I still favour the 'tuning via type' idea. "This is a combined force, can't take/can only take one of that. Take a SoB strain and this special rule changes and you can take as many of these as you want, but no GK and faith points are used. That the GK strain and you change this up, can't take daemonhosts (hilarious as that may be) and these weapons treat invulnerable saves like armour saves."
It's give some flexibility for those wanting purestrain and let them add some units that would be way overpowered in combination with each other if used in a mixed force. And keep faith points as a viable mechanism, which I think is one of the main reasons SoB players want a solo dex.

Exactly, I'm all for those people who want to stick with a pure form of thier respective GK and SoB armies, but I still think that the option should at least be there.

I vote yes, actually, as you should know, EF. I fully support an Inquisition book with all three Ordos THAT LEAVES OUT THE SISTERS SO THEY CAN HAVE THEIR OWN DEX as they truly deserve. I also would like to see some Ordo Xenos ally options.

TBH I've found that they act well as a support role, an inquisitor with a small retinue can add some desperately needed firepower or CC to a sister army. And the assassins that come with them are very welcome.
But if you feel that way, don't take Inq units. I feel that the option for a Sister Only Army should be there, and is indeed still possible, but taking away the choice of mixing inquisitorial units is going to upset everyone but the most die-hard of SoB fans. (namely you)
BTW, did you say that you voted yes? Perhaps you misread the poll...

You seem to start with the idea of taking an Inq. I don't and wouldn't. There's little point really. The only worthwhile thing to so with C:WH is build a sisters-only army but rather than having more options for that the book is weighed down with useless stuff like arco-flagellants and penitent engines. You also seem to think that a sisters-only dex would lead to not being able to add Inq stuff to them but I wouldn't support that. There could be a separate All-Ordos book that you could still use allied rules with. But I hate the idea of Sisters paired with Guard. Would a serious IG ever player want to use sisters (campaign fluff reasons aside)? I'm skeptical. To me, the very concept of having sisters as allies is as stupid as being able to take (non-GK) SM as allies to your IG. Sisters are not some specialist group like GK or Inq Storm Troopers or Deathwatch Marines. They are a fully-fledged and independent force. As such, the should go back to having their own codex.

I agree the Sisters are not the army of the Inquisition, but of the Ecclesiarchy. They just have an agreement to function as the Order Militant of the Ordo Hereticus. The Sisters as a group actually pre-date the Ordo Hereticus though only on the backwater world of San Leor. I truly understand why people want a combined codex, I just don't happen to agree. It would be like telling people that Blood Angels will now be mixed with Black Templars and Dark Angels and they have even more units in common than the Inquistion. Sisters play and field nothing like Grey Knights or Inquisitorial Stormtroopers.

To sharpen the point, a Sororita is sometimes present as High Lord on the Council of Terra. They are not the equivalent of Inquisitorial Storm Troopers, as EF seems to imagine, nor a tiny group of secret warriors like the GK. Actually, they have a much more extensive organization than any Codex-adherent SM chapter. I don't even think they should be thrown together with other Eccliarchical units. They really are their own thing.

But a sisters only dex would take far longer to come around. You would have to wait years for seperate GK/Inquisitorial/SoB codexes to get thier shot at an update. With a single dex, updates are going to happen more often.
As for the fluff, it always came across to me that they were serving both the Inquisition and the Ecclesiarchy at the same level. TBH, Battle Sisters are a rather minor force in the world of 40k. There are only a half-a-dozen major orders (each numbering a few thousand strong) and the minor orders (I'm not including other sects like Hospitallier). In all likelihood it comes across that there are more Space Marines by far than there are sisters of battle.
The only other race that they seem to outnumber would be the single Marine Chapters. Such as DA and BA. (both of which I believe could have been integrated into the SM dex.) The SoB work with the Inquisition so much and so often that having them all in the same dex only makes sense.
Witchhunters and Deamonhunters (with thier respective SoB and GK militant orders) are both very minor races when seperate. They are very rarely the gamers choice of army, either of them. A combined codex would add so much more potential, and give them such a stronger standing. Why are you opposed to the idea of a single dex, but with the option of running a Battle Sister only army?
